As we lock down the details for this year’s Awesomeness Fest, the third installation of Mindvalley’s annual gathering of innovative, creative entrepreneurs and leaders for a weekend of networking, sharing ideas, partying and building a community of growth and contribution to the world – we reminisce our favourite parts about Awesomeness Fest 2011 in Maui, Hawaii.
One of them was a board meeting like no other. Eliminate all thoughts of cold boardrooms with squeaky swivel chairs and smelly carpets – this board meeting doesn’t just take place at the beach; it is held at sea itself.
If you think surfing’s only reserved for barefooted, free-spirited and worry-less dudes with tans, Brian Scrone and Jim Sheils have redefined team bonding and quality time through their company, Board Meetings International.
Board Meetings promotes “experiential education experience”, combining a fun activity (surfing), a beautiful location (a beach) and their 6 Pillars of Experiential Education, which underline the importance of Confidence Mindset, Entrepreneurial Vision, Financial Empowerment, Conscious Contribution, Quality Connection and Energetic Health.
Mindvalley got wave of the retreat during our Awesomeness Fest in Costa Rica back in 2010 and had such a mind blowing experience with Brian and Jim that we shipped them over to join us again last year in Maui.
Taking surfing lessons and surfing with your coworkers puts everyday perspective in a whole different light, and definitely beats the one-legged race or musical chair malarkey of typical team retreats. We surfaced on the beach more enthusiastic and positive about the next activity on the agenda; and most importantly – about working with each other.
We’re crossing our fingers hard that Board Meetings International can take us surfing again at Awesomeness Fest 2012! Perhaps you could opt for an “alternative” team building exercise to improve your professional relations. Do you know any other interesting alternatives? If so, share below :)
