Jobs at MindValley—Where Happiness is The New Productivity

Why do insanely smart people from around the world give up traditional job ideas and instead come and work for MindValley?

Because we think J-O-B is a dirty word. Work, we believe, needs to be fun, educational and something that makes you excited that you jump out of bed each morning.

Screw the Traditional 9-5 Job. Instead, get paid to Play, Create, Learn and Grow. It’s like Being a Child Again. But with a Salary.

We’re reinventing “work”. Read on to see how…

10 Reasons To Join MindValley

  1. Freedom

We understand that brilliant people hate rules and shackles, and desire the freedom to do their work – in their way.

  2. Thinking BIG!

With small ideas, we aim for big impact. When we build a web app, we want it to change the way people use the web. When we start an eCommerce venture, we aim to be either #1 or #2 in the market. We aim to be as influential in improving people’s lives through technology as Yahoo, Google or Apple. We love Big, Scary, Audacious Goals.

  3. Profitability

We’re fully profitable and continue to grow each year at impressive rates. Need Stability? You got it!

  4. Great People

We hire only the best. For a typical position we shift through 100 resumes and interview at least 10 people. Make it in, and you’ll be working with some of the best minds in the business. We understand that “A” people attract “A” people.

  5. Perks

We treat our employees well. You get your own laptop (Mac or PC, your pick), your own 22 inch widescreen LCD, an iPod dock, free food, rent-subsidization, occasional concert tickets, Starbucks coffee, dinners at 6-star hotels, free trips to paradise islands like Bali… Our founders have worked at Microsoft and eBay, and believe in the Silicon Valley model of spoiling employees. But more importantly, we treat our people as human beings, and are sensitive to your unique needs.

  6. Creativity

Your typical work week is 45 hours. Of this time, we allow you to spend 5 hours a week working on your own projects or inventions. If your project is successful, we will help you launch it. We have modeled this after Google and 3M’s style of nurturing creativity within the organization.

  7. Stability

We have never taken a drop of investment and so have no investors to pull the plug on us. Our business also spans multiple industries such as internet marketing, product development, publishing and coding. This protects us from short term market trends in any one industry.

  8. Fun

We put the “Fun” in “Business Fundamentals”. Don’t get us wrong—we’re a disciplined, well-oiled engine of growth. But we believe that business should be fun and people should look forward to going to work each day.

  9. Idealism

100% of our employees have spent significant time volunteering or working for non-profits. We started this business to change the world. Money came naturally. As a result, we will devote our time and attention to causes that may not bring in short term profits, but may result in positive social change.

  10. Entrepreneurship

We understand that great people dream of starting their own companies. We help you attain this dream. We provide training and mentorship to help you grow. We do not require any employees to sign a bonding contract. Simply put, you are free to learn from us and then move on when you are ready to start your own business. We respect entrepreneurship.

MindValley’s 2007 Team Retreat at the Paradise of Langkawi Island, Malaysia

We flew the entire team (and their families) to a paradise island for an all expense paid three days of sun, surf, bonding, drinking, games, and strategy meetings.

In 2008, our team retreat was held at the five-star Sheraton resort in Krabi, Thailand. Needless to say, it was a total blast.

What We Do At MindValley

MindValley is an incubator. We develop and spin-off two to three new internet businesses each year. Because of the rapid, ever-changing landscape of our playing field (the Internet), MindValley people get to work on multiple projects that span a diverse array of skills.

We hire poets, writers, mathematicians, entrepreneurs, web application developers, DJs, programmers, video artists – from around the world. At MindValley, you find yourself surrounded by insanely bright people, with fascinating life’s and hobbies, doing work that they’re passionate about.

We discovered that brilliant people get burned out by normal 9-5 jobs. So at MindValley we built a company culture that allows our employees the freedom to work on things that make them happy, allow them to grow, provide them enough free time to pursue their own hobbies, and help them move towards their own personal dreams.

Why is MindValley Located in Malaysia?

Why did Vishen and Mike move MindValley from New York and San Francisco to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia?

Our head office is in Malaysia for a number of reasons. Firstly, this is one of the hottest economic growth regions in the world. Within a 4 hour flight of Kuala Lumpur, you can access 3 billion people. 90% of our business is in the USA and Europe right now… but we see Asia as a rapidly emerging market.

The other reason is that Malaysia is an incredibly fun country to run a company in. MindValley people spend their weekends visiting exotic islands, exploring rain-forests, working on non-profit courses, partying in the bars and clubs of Kuala Lumpur, and visiting amazing tourist destinations like Phuket, Bali, Tioman or Angkor—all within a few hours flight. This is one of the most amazing tourist destinations in the world—land of perpetual summer and exotic nature.

We Are Hiring (For Brains, Not Positions)

Much of the work we do is on the cutting edge of marketing and technology. You can’t get an education in blogging, internet marketing, creating viral YouTube videos or Ruby on Rails programming. So we hire people based on their ability to think, to grow, and to strive to be the best in their fields.

We hire programmers, database engineers, writers, bloggers, DJs, videographers, artist, poets, mathematicians, marketers, NGO workers. Your education isn’t important. Your life story, personal accomplishments, personality, skills and goals are what we really look for.

Our available positions change monthly, but here’s what we’re recruiting for right now.
