Little do we know, its influence permeates cultures across the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what is it? And why is it important for a modern human? Here\u2019s everything you need to know about one of the most important mentions in Bible prophecy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-the-order-of-melchizedek\">What is the Order of Melchizedek?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Order of Melchizedek is an archaic priesthood that continues to elude history, yet its origin remains unknown.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What <em>is known<\/em>, though, is that it shaped Christianity and Gnosticism 2,000 years ago. It was present during the emergence of Judaism over 4,000 years ago. And there are even older parallels between Melchizedek and the ancient Egyptian god Thoth that predate history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are you wondering what does it mean to <em>be<\/em> in the Order of Melchizedek? It\u2019s widely accepted that the priesthood of Melchizedek influenced the Knights Templar and the Freemasons. It\u2019s even recognized by the Mormon Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-does-the-order-of-melchizedek-mean\">What does the Order of Melchizedek mean?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From Hebrew, <strong>Melchi <\/strong>means \u201cmother\u201d and <strong>Zedek <\/strong>means \u201cfather.\u2019 So the name \u201cMelchizedek\u201d encompasses both masculine and feminine energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This portrayal implies that Melchizedek is more of an idea or value than a being with an ego.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When God created human beings, He said, \u201cLet us.\u201d And the original Hebrew texts refer to God as Elohim, which means gods. Melchizedek could be the representation of both male and female images of God: God the Father and God the Mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Zedek is also the Hebrew name for Jupiter. <\/strong>Uncoincidentally, Jupiter displayed unusual brightness during the time of Abraham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The planet helped orient travelers. It would have lit up the night sky during Abraham\u2019s journey back from Sodom (where he encountered Melchizedek).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Supporting this planetary connection, Jupiter happens to be the ruling planet of Aquarius, the constellation associated with baptism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-the-order-of-melchizedek-symbol\">What Is the Order of Melchizedek symbol?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many know it now as the symbol of Judaism. However, the symbol (which consists of two interlocked squares, making what appears to be an eight-pointed star) is known as the seal of Melchizedek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meaning and origin of the symbol are unclear. However, according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/rsc.byu.edu\/vol-11-no-3-2010\/seal-melchizedek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">article<\/a> by the Religious Studies Center at Brigham Young University, the squares most likely \u201c<em>symbolize honesty, perfection, dependability, integrity, morality, protection, and unchangingness<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What\u2019s more, the eight points of the star \u201c<em>are traditionally associated with the concepts of resurrection, new beginnings, rebirth, renewal, and baptism<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1435\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/mv-prod-blog-en-assets\/2020\/10\/bf18a66d-order-of-melchizedek-mindvalley-blog-graphic-scaled.webp\" alt=\"The Order of Melchizedek symbol\" class=\"wp-image-68095\" srcset=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/mv-prod-blog-en-assets\/2020\/10\/bf18a66d-order-of-melchizedek-mindvalley-blog-graphic-scaled.webp 2560w, https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/mv-prod-blog-en-assets\/2020\/10\/bf18a66d-order-of-melchizedek-mindvalley-blog-graphic-768x430.webp 768w, https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/mv-prod-blog-en-assets\/2020\/10\/bf18a66d-order-of-melchizedek-mindvalley-blog-graphic-1536x861.webp 1536w, https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/mv-prod-blog-en-assets\/2020\/10\/bf18a66d-order-of-melchizedek-mindvalley-blog-graphic-2048x1148.webp 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-was-the-first-high-priest-mentioned-in-the-bible\">Who was the first high priest mentioned in the Bible?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Melchizedek comes up in a few places in the holy book:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Bible.<\/strong> He\u2019s the first high priest mentioned.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Book of Genesis.<\/strong> Melchizedek appears (out of nowhere) to bless Abraham. Abraham then pays tribute to Melchizedek by sharing a tenth of his spoils from his raid on Sodom.<br><br>Melchizedek is described in Genesis as \u201ca priest of the highest God\u201d and the \u201cKing of Salem.\u201d<strong> <\/strong>The word <em>salem <\/em>literally translates to \u201c\u2018peace,\u201d\u2019 making Melchizedek the \u201cKing of Peace.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Melchizedek is characterized as being \u201cwithout father, without mother, without descent.\u201d There is no record of his predecessors or successors. Since Melchizedek was a man, he had both a father and mother, but nothing is mentioned in Scripture about his genealogy, birth, or when he was appointed to High Priest. Also, there is no record of his death, because he remains \u201ca priest continually.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Book of Psalms.<\/strong> This source prophetically illustrates Jesus as \u201cforever a priest in the Order of Melchizedek.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is clear that Melchizedek commands honor and respect, even from holy figures like Abraham and Jesus. In fact, <strong>his description in Hebrews suggests he is an eternal being.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-origin-of-the-jewish-priesthood\">The origin of the Jewish priesthood<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Jewish priesthood is passed patrilineally, which means only the son of a priest can become a priest. <strong>Melchizedek is the first priest in the Torah (the central text of Judaism).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the first human priest was Adam, and the priesthood was then passed through his offspring. After the flood, Noah takes the mantle of the high priest, who passes it to Shem (Noah\u2019s son).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The title of high priest then skipped nine generations and was passed on to Abraham through Melchizedek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This poses a conundrum in Jewish law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Torah, Melchizedek does not exist in the patriarchal lineage, yet he is able to bestow the priesthood on Abraham and his lineage. For this reason, some Jews believe that Shem is Melchizedek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Jewish texts like the Talmud, Melchizedek shares the same Hebrew name as Shem\u2019s nickname (\u05de\u05dc\u05db\u05d9\u05be\u05e6\u05d3\u05e7). However, there is no evidence to support this outside of Jewish texts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The priesthood continues to pass patrilineally to this day. Genetic testing has shown that 60% of all Jewish priests share a single common ancestor from about 3,000 years ago, around the time of Abraham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, Melchizedek <a href=\"https:\/\/dwellcc.org\/learning\/essays\/melchizedek-and-priesthood-christ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">may have been the origin<\/a> of the Jewish priesthood that exists today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-melchizedek-and-gnosticism\">Melchizedek and Gnosticism<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gnosticism developed out of Judeo-Christian <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mindvalley.com\/how-to-become-a-mystic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mysticism<\/a> around the time of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deadseascrolls.org.il\/learn-about-the-scrolls\/introduction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dead Sea Scrolls<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gnosis.org\/library\/bookss.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bruce Codex<\/a> are Gnostic texts that contain information on Melchizedek. Like the Bible, they seem to create a correlation between biblical figures and Melchizedek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deterioration of the <strong>Dead Sea Scrolls<\/strong> has obscured much of the text surrounding the coming of Melchizedek. But, he is clearly depicted as the leader of God\u2019s angels in the war against darkness, ranking above the Archangel Michael (whom the Bible cites as the leader of God\u2019s angels).&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The<strong> Bruce Codex<\/strong> was found in Upper Egypt. The manuscript is a compilation of different texts, many of which are not relatable or easy to understand. It was used by initiates of mystic schools in pursuit of esoteric knowledge.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From initiate to initiate, the Bruce Codex was passed down. Over time, it became a record of secret knowledge acquired through the ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Recorded within the Bruce Codex are instructions by Jesus for baptism through fire (as opposed to holy water).<\/strong> Melchizedek was the beholder of this holy fire, which, like holy water, purifies the body and washes away past sins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another Gnostic text, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earlychristianwritings.com\/pistis.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pistis Sophia<\/a>, supports and expands Bruce Codex\u2019s explanation of Melchizedek. It portrays Melchizedek as a guide, leading souls toward the light of God (also known as the Light of the Seven).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-so-who-is-melchizedek-3-main-theories\">So, who is Melchizedek? 3 main theories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a better understanding of the Order of Melchizedek, you also need to know about Melchizedek himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to Melchizedek, <strong>the historical record is incomplete and inadequate. <\/strong>But there are numerous connections we can make to uncover the mystery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are<strong> three main theories as to who (or what) Melchizedek is (or was):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-the-spirit-of-jesus-or-the-holy-spirit\">1. The spirit of Jesus, or the Holy Spirit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the first theory, Melchizedek is an eternal being that can be interpreted as the spirit of Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus and Melchizedek share many attributes, such as both being High Priests, as mentioned in different parts of the religious literature, and both being entities of eternal nature. Proponents of this theory also argue that Melchizedek was a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the alternate version of this theory, Melchizedek is linked to the Holy Spirit. As we mentioned earlier, in the book of Genesis, Melchizedek blessed Abraham and guided him. The Holy Spirit is also often depicted as the entity that blesses and shows humans the path toward God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>The underlying principle of the Melchizedek Order is to prepare those who are chosen for the order to ascend into the fifth dimension<\/em>,\u201d explains Deborah King, a bestselling author and a leading authority on energy healing. \u201c<em>That\u2019s where you end up mastering your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual states<\/em>.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-an-idea-nbsp\">2. An idea&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As this theory suggests, Melchizedek is an idea that represents the merging of consciousness between two dually opposed ideas: church and state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the longest time in human history, priests and kings held different and distinct roles. On the one hand, priests were responsible for the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mindvalley.com\/religion-and-spirituality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spiritual realm<\/a>, connecting people with the divine. On the other hand, kings were responsible for governing the realm and connecting people with the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Melchizedek, as an idea, means that the priest (church) and the king (state) should not be separate entities, and thus harmony is achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-an-ascended-master-of-atlantis-nbsp\">3. An Ascended Master of Atlantis&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This theory merges Melchizedek with the legendary civilization of Atlantis. To understand this theory better, we need to understand what Atlantis and Ascended Masters are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atlantis is believed to be a legendary ancient civilization that ceased to exist due to cataclysmic events. More importantly, Atlantis is associated with lost <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mindvalley.com\/spirituality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spiritual wisdom<\/a> (and advanced technology as well).
