It\u2019s about devotion."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christmas has become a moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A feeling we try to manufacture.<br>A mood we chase for a few days.<br>A brief pause before life speeds up again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But if you look closely, if you strip away the lights, the gifts, the songs, the consumerism, what you find underneath Christmas is something far older, and far more powerful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ritual.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And ritual is how human beings have practiced devotion for thousands of years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of my favorite rituals happens every year without fail: putting up the Christmas tree with my kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I took a photo just a few nights ago. It was 1 AM. I walked into the living room and found my daughter and her best friend, who was sleeping over, mesmerized by the lights on the tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1531\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/mv-prod-blog-en-assets\/2025\/12\/163c157b-christmas-vishen.webp\" alt=\"Two girls looking at a Christmas tree\" class=\"wp-image-78785\" srcset=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/mv-prod-blog-en-assets\/2025\/12\/163c157b-christmas-vishen.webp 1531w, https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/mv-prod-blog-en-assets\/2025\/12\/163c157b-christmas-vishen-768x803.webp 768w, https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/mv-prod-blog-en-assets\/2025\/12\/163c157b-christmas-vishen-1470x1536.webp 1470w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1531px) 100vw, 1531px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think this may be my favorite picture of 2025.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tree wasn\u2019t decoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was a ritual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An act of devotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something we do as a family every year, not because it achieves anything\u2014but because it anchors something.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-forgotten-power-of-devotion\">The Forgotten Power of Devotion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In my upcoming book, <em>Becoming Unfuckwithable<\/em>, I talk about devotion not as religion or sacrifice, but as <strong>applied love over time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Devotion to a cause.<br>Devotion to an ideal.<br>Devotion to your health.<br>Devotion to your children.<br>Devotion to your craft.<br>Devotion to your inner life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It doesn\u2019t matter what the object of devotion is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What matters is this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Devotion makes us stronger because it removes negotiation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you are devoted, you don\u2019t wake up asking, <em>\u201cDo I feel like it today?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You wake up knowing who you are. And you act accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-rituals-were-never-about-results\">Why Rituals Were Never About Results<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s something the modern world has quietly forgotten:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Rituals are not about what you get.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They never were.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why do we make our bed every morning, knowing full well we\u2019re going to mess it up again at night?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why do we spend hours choosing Christmas gifts, only to watch the wrapping paper torn apart in seconds?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why do we hit the gym day after day, even though progress is slow, incremental, sometimes invisible?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you look at these behaviors purely through the lens of efficiency, they make no sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that\u2019s the point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rituals were never designed to be efficient.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They were designed to be <strong>formative<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They shape us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ritual-is-identity-in-motion\">Ritual Is Identity in Motion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ancient cultures didn\u2019t rely on motivation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They relied on <strong>structure.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You didn\u2019t meditate when you felt inspired.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You prayed when the bell rang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You didn\u2019t train when you were in the mood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You trained because that\u2019s what warriors did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You didn\u2019t ask whether a ritual was \u201cworth it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You performed it because it reminded you who you were.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ritual locks identity into the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And identity is far more powerful than willpower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-modern-trap-what-do-i-get\">The Modern Trap: \u201cWhat Do I Get?\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Somewhere along the way, we turned everything into a transaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We started asking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>What do I get from this workout?<\/em><em><br><\/em><em>What do I get from this relationship?<\/em><em><br><\/em><em>What do I get from this habit?<\/em><em><br><\/em><em>What do I get from this practice?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But devotion collapses the moment it becomes transactional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rituals don\u2019t ask for guarantees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They don\u2019t promise outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They don\u2019t negotiate with the ego.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They simply say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Show up anyway.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And in doing so, they free us from the exhausting cycle of chasing, quitting, restarting, and judging ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-christmas-as-a-devotional-technology\">Christmas as a Devotional Technology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is why Christmas endures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because of theology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because of tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But because, once a year, it forces ritual back into our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We slow down.<br>We gather.<br>We give without keeping score.<br>We show up for people we love, even when it\u2019s inconvenient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a brief moment, we remember what it feels like to live from devotion instead of demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tragedy isn\u2019t that Christmas ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tragedy is that we don\u2019t carry its <em>structure<\/em> forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-modern-ritual-for-an-ancient-need\">A Modern Ritual for an Ancient Need<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If there\u2019s one thing I\u2019ve learned, it\u2019s this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don\u2019t need grand practices to become unfuckwithable.<br>You need <strong>small rituals you don\u2019t negotiate with<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Five minutes of stillness each morning. A daily walk. Writing one paragraph. Preparing food with care. Training your body consistently. Showing up for your kids, fully present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because it guarantees success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But because it guarantees <strong>alignment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And alignment compounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-devotion-is-what-remains-when-motivation-is-gone\">Devotion Is What Remains When Motivation Is Gone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Motivation is emotional. Emotion is unstable.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Devotion is structural. And structure outlives emotion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is why devotion to a practice, a value, or a way of living creates something deeper than achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It creates <strong>character<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And character is what makes you <strong>unfuckwithable.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-one-small-ritual-to-carry-into-the-new-year\">One Small Ritual to Carry Into the New Year<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If there\u2019s one thing I\u2019d invite you to take into the new year, it\u2019s not a goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s <strong>one small ritual<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not something impressive.<br>Not something you\u2019ll post about.<br>Not something that needs willpower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just one steady, repeatable act you don\u2019t negotiate with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It might be as simple as this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Taking your supplements every morning: unrushed, intentional, present. Not because supplements change your life, but because <strong>how you do small things trains who you are<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sitting cross-legged on the same sofa every morning for five minutes of stillness. Same place. Same posture. Just you, breathing, showing up.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stepping outside at 8 AM every day for a short walk to get sunlight. Same route. Same time. Letting your body relearn rhythm.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Writing a two-minute note of appreciation to one colleague or teammate before you start your workday. No agenda. No feedback. Just acknowledgement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">None of these rituals will go viral.<br>None of them will look dramatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that\u2019s exactly why they work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because devotion doesn\u2019t need intensity. It needs <strong>consistency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ritual isn\u2019t about what it produces. The ritual <em>is<\/em> the point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Show up for it long enough, and something subtle but powerful begins to happen:<br>your nervous system calms, your identity stabilizes, and life starts to feel less like something you\u2019re chasing and more like something you\u2019re inhabiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s how change really happens.<br>Quietly.<br>Daily.<br>Without applause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-quiet-invitation-this-christmas\">A Quiet Invitation This Christmas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So this Christmas, instead of resolutions, try something different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Choose one small ritual.<br>Make it steady.<br>Make it repeatable.<br>Make it unyielding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not to get something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But to <strong>be someone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s devotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And devotion, practiced quietly, daily, without applause, is how ordinary humans become extraordinary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Merry Christmas.
