{"id":11880,"date":"2018-06-01T19:01:00","date_gmt":"2018-06-02T03:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mindvalley.com\/?p=11880"},"modified":"2025-11-04T06:55:49","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T11:55:49","slug":"how-to-make-money-as-a-coach-6-steps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mindvalley.com\/coach\/blog\/how-to-make-money-as-a-coach-6-steps\/","title":{"rendered":"How to make money as a coach without selling out your values"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">What\u2019s one of the biggest money obstacles coaches have to deal with?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The idea that they want to be getting paid to do good.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Many people go into coaching because they want to be of service to the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">It\u2019s not just a job,\u00a0<strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">it\u2019s a higher calling.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">It\u2019s not just a business, it\u2019s\u00a0<strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">your mission in the world.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">As such, sometimes it can be difficult to come to terms with the fact that we can be getting paid to do good.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">After all, Mother Theresa didn\u2019t make a lot of money off of her work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Neither did Gandhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">In fact, tons of people who were of great service to the world weren\u2019t exactly rolling in the dough and many of them had no desire to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">This can gives many of us a conflicting message:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">In order to be of service to the world then money can\u2019t be important.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">So what happens?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Many individuals in service based industries never make enough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">For example, in the non-profit world we see employees running themselves into the ground for very little money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">We see many in spiritual capacities afraid to charge for the good work they do, leaving them broke and always struggling with money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You know you\u2019ve seen it. And perhaps you\u2019ve even experienced it in your own life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The struggling coach who can\u2019t seem to make ends meet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The coach who immediately slashes their prices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The coach who never charges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The coach who looks energetically depleted whenever they are working.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The coach who has become resentful because they aren\u2019t making money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The coach who never seems to have more opportunities coming their way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">And yet there are those coaches who seem to be having the\u00a0<strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">exact opposite experience.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">People just seem to throw their money at them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">They find success on every corner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">They regularly boast about making six figures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Oprah calls them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">What\u2019s the difference between coaches who make good money and those that don\u2019t?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The former have overcome the false belief that in order to be of service you can\u2019t really make any money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">In other words, they overcame the belief that getting paid to do good means you\u2019re not really being very good person.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">We\u2019re not going to lie, this is not an easy story to overcome because of all the social conditioning that has occurred around this subject.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">However, once you do overcome this you\u2019ll see that money and service can easily coexist without any friction whatsoever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Below you\u2019ll find our 6 steps for getting paid to do good in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Step 1: Determine your stories about getting paid to do good<\/h2>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">As a society, we\u2019re pretty messed up when it comes to getting paid to do good.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">We\u2019ve had centuries of institutions who claim to monitor morality tell us that wanting money is greedy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">We\u2019re told that in order to be charitable we have to give stuff away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Industries, like the aforementioned non-profit work, drive employees into the ground because they are \u201cdoing good work for other people and shouldn\u2019t care about money.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">We\u2019ve got media outlets and people all around us blaming greedy corporations and politicians for their financial woes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Essentially we\u2019ve come to believe that as general rule\u00a0<strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">money equates to something wrong.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Furthermore, money is especially wrong if you\u2019re trying to help people. If you\u2019re trying to\u00a0help\u00a0people how dare you to make good money?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">So the first step in turning this around and opening the doors to getting paid to do good is to see what side of the spectrum you fall on when it comes to this story.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">For some, it may be very intense. Perhaps they had a very religious upbringing and that particular religion emphasized the importance of poverty and renouncing worldly goods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">For others, it may be what your parents taught you. Perhaps \u201cRich people are evil\u201d or \u201cGreedy corporations don\u2019t care about the people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">And yet still for others, it may just be something you picked up from society as a whole.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">For example, the news is constantly pushing alarming stories about how money is going to ruin us or how there is never enough of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You may also have people in your life who have a certain belief about getting paid to do good and perhaps you picked up their traumas around the issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The point is to get very clear on what the story is for you and then ask yourself, \u201cWhere did this story come from?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Please note, do not ask yourself \u201cWhy\u00a0do I have this story?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You\u2019ll only get a scripted response from your ego who has probably rationalized your story forwards and backwards to try and convince you it\u2019s correct.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Instead, ask\u00a0where. This gets you out of your logical mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">It also helps you realize that perhaps the story isn\u2019t really yours. In fact, it\u2019s very likely that it\u2019s someone else\u2019s story you adopted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">If this is the case, don\u2019t worry, it happens to everyone. Especially when it comes to money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Money and morality is such an emotionally charged topic that it\u2019s very unlikely that you came up with your beliefs all by yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Step 2: Realize that it\u2019s spiritual to be rich<\/h2>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">What\u2019s the number one way to eradicate the false belief that getting paid to do good is wrong?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">By realizing that it\u2019s even more detrimental for the world for you\u00a0not\u00a0to get paid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">In fact, one can even venture to say that it\u2019s spiritual to be rich.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The phrase\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s spiritual to be rich\u201d\u00a0is from a talk\u00a0<a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MTqZtOq53Vo\" data-uw-rm-brl=\"exc\"><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Kate Northrup<\/span><\/a>\u00a0gave at Wanderlust Festival a while back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">In her talk, she debunks the myth that in order to be considered a \u201cspiritual person\u201d that you must relinquish material goods, sell all your stuff and cry out the perils of money and greed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">In fact, her approach to money is vastly different than one would expect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">She believes that\u00a0<strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">taking care of your finances is an act of self-love.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">And by the way, taking care of your finances doesn\u2019t just mean budgeting, spending less than you earn and putting money away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">It also means making sure you get paid.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Here\u2019s what happens if you don\u2019t prioritize getting paid:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You can\u2019t meet your financial goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You overwork yourself and are therefore not of your best service to your clients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You become resentful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You end up in a constant feast or famine cycle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You\u2019re essentially telling the Universe that you are not worthy of making the kind of money you know you deserve. Therefore less opportunities come your way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The last one\u00a0really\u00a0stings, doesn\u2019t it?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">It\u2019s the truth though.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">By not realizing that getting paid to do good is an option you block more money from coming in. Not just from a spiritual perspective but in the literal sense as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindvalley.com\/ultimate-guide-to-spiritual-life-coaching?utm_source=blog_hyperlink&amp;utm_campaign=evergreen_slc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"Spiritual life coach - opens in new tab\" data-uw-rm-brl=\"false\" data-uw-rm-ext-link=\"na\"><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Spiritual life coach<\/span><\/a><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\"> and marketing maven, <a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gabbyb.tv\/\" data-uw-rm-brl=\"false\"><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Gabrielle Bernstein<\/span><\/a>, also has some wonderful insights on the idea of getting paid to do good.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">In many of her videos about abundance she mentions how work isn\u2019t just working, it\u2019s our calling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">When we are in alignment with that then the Universe presents us with the opportunity to be provided for.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Part of trusting that is knowing that we can and should be getting paid to do good.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Furthermore, money\u00a0can\u00a0be used for good which makes it extremely spiritual.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Let\u2019s face some facts here:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Many of the world\u2019s problems can be solved with money. It may not solve the entire problem, but money certainly does help.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You provide for yourself and your family with money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Fixing the economy starts with more cash flow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">For example, if you make more money you can hire someone to help you, essentially giving them a job so they can feed\u00a0their\u00a0family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">If you aren\u2019t making sure to take care of yourself financially then you won\u2019t be in business very long. This results in closing up shop and missing the opportunity to help more people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">So as you can see, it is actually spiritual to be rich.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Not only do you need money to support yourself and your family but you also need it to continue being of service to your clients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Furthermore, you can use that money for good works of your choosing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Bottom line: getting paid to do good actually helps the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Step 3: Ingrain this hard business fact in your mind<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIf you aren\u2019t being of service, then you won\u2019t get paid anyway.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">We\u2019ve already discussed the fact that many people have a false belief that being of service means you shouldn\u2019t make money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The irony of all of this is that if you\u2019re\u00a0not\u00a0being of service then you\u2019re not going to get paid anyway.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Many people go into business for the wrong reason: money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">And by the wrong reason, we mean that it\u2019s the\u00a0only reason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Money is obviously a reason to start a business, and that\u2019s okay. The problem is when it\u2019s the sole reason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">As a result, these people end up not making very much of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Or, at the very least, they are miserable when they do.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Meanwhile, those that go into business with\u00a0<a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mindvalley.com\/blog\/serve-coaching-clients-and-measure-transformation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uw-styling-context=\"true\" aria-label=\"service in mind - opens in new tab\" data-uw-rm-brl=\"false\" data-uw-rm-ext-link=\"na\">service in mind<\/a>\u00a0(and combine that with knowing they deserve to make a living) are the ones who are successful not just in the bank account but with overall satisfaction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">So in reality, you need to be of service to your clients in order to make money and pay your bills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Think about it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">If you\u2019re not being of service by trying to fix someone\u2019s problem then why would anyone pay you anyway?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The disconnect arises when we have a certain definition of \u201cservice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Perhaps you think being of service is volunteering, but getting paid to fix someone\u2019s problem is not.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">If that\u2019s the case,\u00a0<strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">it\u00a0needs to\u00a0stop right now<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Fixing someone\u2019s problem and changing their lives through your work is majorly service-oriented.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Truth be told it would be more of a\u00a0disservice\u00a0to your client if you didn\u2019t tell them a solution to their problem was available.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">To drive this point home, in a previous article we mentioned that sales aren\u2019t really sales; it\u2019s sharing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You have the solution to someone\u2019s problem and you are telling them about it. It\u2019s that simple.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Furthermore, and perhaps even more detrimental, you\u2019re being of a disservice to\u00a0yourself\u00a0if you don\u2019t get paid accordingly.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Step 4: Figure out how to do sales from a place of service<\/h2>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">To expand upon the last point we\u2019re going to talk about some ways that you can remain in a place of service while doing sales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Why specifically during sales? Because sales is what gets you paid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">As a result, this is where the story \u201cyou shouldn\u2019t be getting paid to do good\u201d comes up the most.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">This is when coaches slash their prices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">This is when they end up doing free work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">This is when they freeze up at the thought of negotiating.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">This is when they tend to feel guilty for the charging period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You can combat all of this by keeping service in mind through every step of the process \u2013 from marketing to closing the deal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The first phase is your marketing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You have to keep your ideal client in mind by asking yourself:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">What are they struggling with?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">How can I help them?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">This is how you come up with helpful content which is usually your first point of contact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The next phase is qualifying the lead.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Often times this is a free consultation of some kind so that both coach and client can get a feel for each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Free allows the potential client to start trusting you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Free allows you to help a lot of people, even if they don\u2019t come on as a client right now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">(P.S. You can also use the latter to tell your ego to take a back seat because you\u2019re giving plenty away already.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">And finally, if they are a good fit for your coaching,<strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">\u00a0we get to make the sale.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">It\u2019s important to remember that just because you\u2019re asking for money here doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re not being of service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Furthermore, sales done properly is done\u00a0<a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mindvalley.com\/blog\/how-to-master-sales-conversations-3-shifts-to-get-you-there\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uw-styling-context=\"true\" aria-label=\"from a place of trying to help someone - opens in new tab\" data-uw-rm-brl=\"false\" data-uw-rm-ext-link=\"na\">from a place of trying to help someone<\/a>, not making a quick buck off of them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Not only does it feel less slimy, it\u2019s also way more effective.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Lastly, trading money for your service is just an exchange of value.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You give something to them, and they give something to you in return. Simple as that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">This is where your ego may pop up and say\u00a0<em data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">\u201cBut you\u2019re being of service! You shouldn\u2019t want to receive anything for being of service!\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Be vigilant as this is just that old school social conditioning coming into play.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Just remember that this is no longer your story.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Step 5: Allow yourself to give back in little ways<\/h2>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">If you\u2019re really concerned about giving back (as you should be) there are ways you can do it while still getting paid to go good in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You\u2019ll find some ideas below:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Give a percentage of proceeds to your favorite charity or organization.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">This not only helps you give back, it\u2019s also a smart business move.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">First, it shows potential clients that you care enough to support worthy causes which can help them make a decision about whether or not to hire you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Second, <a href=\"https:\/\/donorbox.org\/nonprofit-blog\/charitable-contributions-financial-strategy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">charitable donations can be tax-deductible<\/a>. (Make sure to double-check with your accountant on that one.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Offer a scholarship to your coaching program.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">One great way to give back while simultaneously creating some marketing buzz is to offer a scholarship for your coaching.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">For example, Marie Forleo holds a contest every year where people submit videos explaining why they should win a scholarship to her famed B-School.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">She\u2019s not the only one either.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Hibiscus Moon Crystal Academy is also another stellar example of how people in spiritual and service-based industries can use scholarships to give back and market their businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Many coaches across the globe do similar things to raise awareness about their programs and give back at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Have a referral program.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Another way you can give back and simultaneously build your business is to offer a referral program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">A referral program is when you provide some sort of incentive to current or prospective clients for sending new people over your way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">For instance, for every new client that comes on as a result of a current client\u2019s recommendation some coaches offer a credit or discount to be used toward their current client\u2019s next <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindvalley.com\/ultimate-guide-to-coaching-prices-and-packages?utm_source=blog_hyperlink&amp;utm_campaign=evergreen_sycb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"coaching package - opens in new tab\" data-uw-rm-brl=\"false\" data-uw-rm-ext-link=\"na\"><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">coaching package<\/span><\/a><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Other businesses send little gifts to like an Amazon or iTunes gift card.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">It\u2019s a wonderful way to grow your business, make your current clients feel special and help them out a bit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Conduct free webinars.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Free webinars are a great way to give back and get leads at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You offer free content to whoever wants it and perhaps you can get a couple of clients from it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">How often you want to do this is up to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Since it does generate leads for potential clients perhaps doing them often works best for filling your pipeline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You can also take this online concept and offer it in your offline marketing as well. Perhaps by offering the occasional free event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">For instance, several network marketing companies do this to raise brand awareness. You can do the same as a coach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Offer free mini sessions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">We already mentioned this under the sales section but it\u2019s worth noting again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Free mini-sessions allow you to help a lot of people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">They also serve as a potential sales call.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Please note, however, to limit mini sessions and consultations to one per person.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Unfortunately, if you\u2019re not careful some people may take advantage of this which is something you definitely want to avoid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Of course, there are instances when you can offer more than one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">For example, an old client wants to come back after some time and you need a better understanding of what it is they\u2019re looking for.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You already know they aren\u2019t taking advantage because they\u2019ve paid you before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Besides, as a good coach you know that circumstances change so you need to know whether or not you can truly help them this time around.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Step 6: Decide how much pro bono work you will do in a year<\/h2>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">We can\u2019t do everything for free or we\u2019d starve.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">That\u2019s just life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">That\u2019s why we need to give ourselves a limit for the amount of pro-bono work we do in one year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">How many scholarships will you give away?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Which organizations will you do an event for free? (And how many times?)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">How many free webinars will you do in one year?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">By balancing free things with paid services you can accomplish many things.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">From a business perspective, you get leads that could eventually turn into paying clients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">From the perspective of being of service and giving back, you\u2019re offering stuff for free.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">This allows people who may not be able to afford your full services to still get some help.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">As such your being of service helps get you paid and still helps a lot of people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">This may beg the question,\u00a0<em data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">\u201cWhy do I need to limit the amount of free stuff that I do?\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">It\u2019s mostly to keep you in check so that you don\u2019t go overboard without taking care of yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">It\u2019s kind of like physical self-care.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You get enough sleep and exercise so that you are healthy enough to meet your priorities and take care of others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The same applies to money.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You make sure you have enough in the bank to take care of yourself so you can meet your priorities and take care of others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">From a more practical perspective, you don\u2019t want to run yourself into the ground or deplete all of your energy on things that don\u2019t get you paid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Mostly because we live in the reality of this world which means we have bills to pay and financial goals to reach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">As an important side note to all of this, please keep in mind that there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to reach certain financial goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Nor do they have to be in conflict with being of service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">As we already discussed if you reach your own financial milestones you can use that money for the good of yourself, your family, and ultimately the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">If there\u2019s anything at all that you get from this article let it be this: you can start getting paid to do good with your coaching practice.
