You can learn from them and move on without missing a beat.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">But there are mistakes that are not so easy to overcome\u2026<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Seemingly insignificant mistakes can take you way off track from your goals and cost you a ton of time, energy, and money.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Here are three deceptively \u201cminor\u201d coaching pitfalls that could permanently damage your reputation and your coaching practice.<\/p>\n<h2 data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">1. Jumping the client-friend line<\/h2>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">When you jump back and forth across the \u201cclient-friend\u201d line, you\u2019re playing with fire, and you\u2019re going to get burned.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">When you become friends with a client, the coach-client boundary gets hazy and unclear.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Your clients will find it challenging and confusing to work with a coach who switches between roles. And when they have insider information about your personal breakdowns, fears, self-doubt, or angry outbursts, it destroys your credibility and breaks their trust.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Here\u2019s what I mean\u2026<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Let\u2019s say you\u2019re a life coach and you\u2019re helping a client get through a difficult divorce.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Your client is unlikely to follow through on your advice about staying centered and calm because you shared\u2014during a friendly chat outside your coaching session\u2014that you threw your ex-husband out of the house in a fit of rage.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">So, do yourself a big favor.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">If you notice you\u2019re sharing your problems or reaching out and connecting with your clients or messaging them \u201cjust to chat,\u201d stop doing it.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Immediately.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Your client is your client. Be loving. You can\u2019t change for them. You can\u2019t adopt new, positive habits for them.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Coaching is about guiding, supporting, and empowering your clients with the right tools and techniques so they can do what they need to do for themselves.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">This means you must do your best as a coach\u2026 and then let go. It\u2019s ultimately up to your clients to create the life they want.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">It\u2019s not up to you.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">You are not responsible for your client\u2019s results. You are responsible for equipping them with the ability to create results for themselves.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">If you don\u2019t have a clear idea on where your work as a coach
