Should they quit the coaching profession?<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Often their partner (husband, wife, etc.) is telling them to quit coaching.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Here\u2019s an email I just received, with my reply below\u2026<\/p>\n<h2 data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Q: Is it a fantasy?<\/h2>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Rich, I was talking to my wife last night about different coaching programs I would like to sign up for this year. Her first question was about time for them, as we have a three-year-old and a one-year-old, and I have a full-time job.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">I explained these would help me become a better coach and help me grow my practice. I\u2019d be able to gradually shift from my full-time job, which is supporting us, to coaching full-time. I\u2019d help more people have more flexibility, doing something I love to do.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">She said, &#8220;When will it be enough? When will I start applying what I already know? When will I realize \u201ccoaching\u201d isn\u2019t really a profession; it is a hobby for me, an escape, a self-help addiction?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Then she said it is worse than a hobby for me because it takes me away from my present job and responsibilities to live in a dream\/fantasy. She says I did this last year and the year before, especially when the winter blues set in, dreaming of being a coach full time but never applying what I already know to my own life or getting any clients.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">I know she loves and supports me if I follow through on it, do the work, and not just talk about it. How do you make that shift, Rich? How do you apply all you\u2019ve learned, instead of looking for the next guru, course, or book, when you already have the answers inside of you?<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Please help me.<\/p>\n<h2 data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">A: Coaching is not for everyone<\/h2>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Hey ______ \u2013 My message to you is provocative. Because being a professional coach isn\u2019t for everyone.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">And especially as you have 2 little babies (congrats by the way). I know personally just how exhausting that is.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Are you open to considering that in some ways your wife may be right?<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Some people are amazing coaches. But they are not cut out for <a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mindvalley.com\/the-business-of-coaching?utm_source=blog_hyperlink&amp;utm_campaign=evergreen_bboc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"the BUSINESS of coaching - opens in new tab\" data-uw-styling-context=\"true\" data-uw-rm-brl=\"false\" data-uw-rm-ext-link=\"na\">the BUSINESS of coaching<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">That doesn\u2019t have to be disheartening.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">The Prosperous Coach Approach is a LONG-TERM game.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">It\u2019s not for everyone.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">If you don\u2019t have the resources of time or money\u2014or even energy\u2014behind you, sometimes the very best thing you can do is go back into full-time employment.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">That\u2019s not a bad thing. It\u2019s a strategic decision.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\" data-uw-rm-sr=\"\">A coach I know recently signed her first $30K private client.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">She sent me a note where she said, \u201cI\u2019m working my butt off. I\u2019m on calls most days from 9 am<span tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1559978478\"><span data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">\u00a0until 7 pm. Sometimes later. I have worked every weekend since September pretty much. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving because I\u2019ll FINALLY have one day with no calls.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\" data-uw-rm-mod=\"\">Not every coach is able to master the\u00a0<a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mindvalley.com\/ultimate-guide-to-coaching-businesses?utm_source=blog_hyperlink&amp;utm_campaign=evergreen_cb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uw-styling-context=\"true\" aria-label=\"Business of Coaching - opens in new tab\" data-uw-rm-brl=\"false\" data-uw-rm-ext-link=\"na\">business of coaching.<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Those who do are in it for the long haul.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">They sometimes use their savings or have a job on the side to sustain them in quiet times.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">And they constantly invest in themselves and commit to the deepest levels of learning.<\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">There\u2019s a myth that people have bought into around \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=g6eFaZPvoIU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uw-styling-context=\"true\" aria-label=\"Never-Ending-Success As A Coach - opens in new tab\" data-uw-rm-brl=\"exc\" data-uw-rm-ext-link=\"na\">Never-Ending-Success As A Coach<\/a>\u201c.\u00a0<em data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">It doesn\u2019t work that way.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">I wish you all the best whether you become a professional coach or whether you remain a part-time coach.
