Created AI tool that amplifies human thinking instead of replacing it
A psychology professor designed a custom GPT that requires users to articulate their reasoning before receiving AI assistance, preserving the cognitive friction essential for growth. Her model ensures AI amplifies human capacity rather than replacing the thinking processes that make us develop and learn.
Overview
AI Mastery fundamentally shifted how I relate to generative AI.
As a psychology professor with expertise in neuroscience and developmental psychology, I was inspired by the scale of possibility these tools unlock. But as AI became more powerful, I began asking a deeper question:
When a tool can think with us, and sometimes for us, how do we prevent the quiet erosion of the thinking processes that make us grow?
The convenience is extraordinary as friction disappears instantly.
And yet, growth often happens in friction.
This realization became the foundation of my final project.
Amplified, Not Outsourced is a growth-centered model for conscious AI use, implemented through a custom GPT called The Conscious Amplifier. Instead of delivering immediate answers, it requires users to articulate their reasoning first and uses structured Socratic questioning to deepen reflection before offering synthesis.
Its core principle is simple:
AI should amplify human capacity, not bypass it.
I believe conscious and mindful AI use is essential as generative tools become embedded in education, leadership, and organizational decision-making.
This project represents a commitment to evolving with AI not as passive consumers of intelligence, but as conscious participants in our own growth.
Achievements
Designed and deployed The Conscious Amplifier, a fully functional Custom GPT grounded in Socratic methodology.
Implemented the model in university teaching and professional reflection settings.
Developed a repeatable interaction framework that preserves cognitive engagement before AI synthesis.
Produced a cinematic short film communicating growth-centered AI use through embodied metaphors of friction, strength, and development.
Initiated scholarly research examining both the cognitive benefits and developmental risks of AI-assisted thinking.
Founded Amplified, Not Outsourced, an initiative dedicated to helping leaders, educators, and organizations integrate AI in ways that expand human capability rather than replace it.
This project demonstrates applied AI, behavioral integration, and real-world leadership.
Methodology
The model is built on three design commitments:
Human articulation before AI input
Socratic expansion rather than answer delivery
Human authorship as final authority
The system intentionally preserves productive cognitive friction: The process through which insight, resilience, and development emerge.
Rather than optimizing for speed alone, it models disciplined, growth-centered AI integration across sectors.
Personal Evolution & Responsibility
AI Mastery did more than teach me tools. It clarified a responsibility.
As AI becomes normalized across education and industry, we are shaping how humans think, learn, decide, and create alongside it.
As an educator, researcher, and mother, this realization became personal.
The habits we model today will shape how the next generation develops its cognitive strength.
For me, AI integration is not only a technical upgrade. It is a developmental choice.
Through this project, I moved from exploring AI capability to actively defining standards for conscious and mindful AI use.
I no longer ask only what AI can do.
I ask what this interaction is shaping in my thinking — and who I am becoming through it.
My work now centers on one guiding question:
How do we design AI ecosystems that strengthen human development rather than diminish it?
Walking the Talk, for me, means this:
Embracing AI’s power, while fiercely protecting the human capacity to think and grow.
