Built a live SaaS product in 55 days for under $1,000 using AI

Quick summary

A non-technical founder used AI tools to build and launch a live SaaS product in 55 days for under $1,000—work that would traditionally cost $50,000-$100,000. Circle transforms scattered event photos into finished digital keepsake albums, filling a gap no competitor addresses.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Circle by MoveInCircle is a live SaaS product that solves a real problem: event photos are scattered across WhatsApp groups, Google Drive links, and individual phones. 20+ platforms exist to collect guest photos, but every single one delivers a raw gallery. Nobody delivers a finished product.

Circle is different. It collects photos from event guests through a simple link or QR code (no app, no signup), and delivers what no competitor offers: a finished digital keepsake album. A PDF with a cover page, contributor names, captions, and a clean layout. Something you keep, share, and revisit.

The product is live at moveincircle.com and app.moveincircle.com. It was built in 55 days by a single non-technical founder using AI tools, for under $1,000 in total cost. Traditional development for the same product would cost $50,000 to $100,000.

This is not my first business. I previously built a marine services company from 3 people to 70+ employees across 5 countries (Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, India, China) before exiting in late 2024. I know what it takes to build a business. This time, I am building with AI.

TOOLS:

VS Code with Claude Code: backend development, API, PDF generation, authentication, file handling.

Lovable: frontend UI design and deployment.

Railway: cloud hosting, Postgres database, persistent file storage, custom domains.

GitHub: version control across two private repositories.

Claude (chat): market research, competitive analysis, strategic planning, documentation.

Special Mention about Wispr Flow - Changed my life and I hardly type anymore.

METHODOLOGY:

I treated Circle as a business from day one, not a side project. Every decision was logged. Features were prioritised ruthlessly. The product was scoped to deliver one thing well: collect memories and turn them into a finished keepsake.

Market research confirmed the opportunity: no Australia-native competitor exists in the digital keepsake space. 120,000+ weddings per year in Australia alone, plus 1.5 to 2 million addressable events across birthdays, corporate events, memorials, and family gatherings. Pricing research shows the market clusters around $29 to $99 per event. Circle is positioned as "keepsake, not gallery," which is the single largest gap in the competitive landscape.

The AI advantage is not just speed. It is the ability for a non-technical founder to build, iterate, and ship a production-quality product without a development team. What would have cost $50,000 to $100,000 in developer fees was built for under $1,000 in AI tool subscriptions.

Business fundamentals are in place: free tier with watermark (conversion driver), paid tier with PDF keepsake and ZIP download, event lifecycle management, moderation controls, and magic link authentication. Real Stripe payment integration is the immediate next step post-submission.

I used a multi-AI workflow where each tool had a specific role. Claude Code was the builder. Lovable was the frontend canvas. Railway was the infrastructure. Claude chat was the strategist. When I hit a wall with one tool, I used another to solve it.

I recorded every decision in a Decisions Log and Parking Lot document to prevent scope creep. Features were either "build before deadline" or "parked for post-submission." This discipline kept the project on track.

LEARNINGS:

1. AI levels the playing field for non-technical founders. I went from not knowing what a repository was to having a live product with custom domains, a database, and PDF generation in 55 days.

2. The product idea matters more than the tech stack. AI tools can build anything, but building the right thing requires understanding your market, your user, and your differentiation.

3. The "keepsake, not gallery" positioning is the single most important business decision. It separates Circle from 20+ competitors who all do the same thing.

4. Setting realistic expectations is critical. Market research shows $50,000 to $150,000 Year 1 revenue is achievable, with a credible path to $300,000 to $500,000 by Year 2 to 3. This is a real business with real unit economics, not a moonshot.

5. Building in public, using AI, and documenting the journey creates a story that resonates. The "non-technical founder builds a real product with AI" narrative is itself a powerful marketing asset.
