A technical builder taught an automation to spot EV installation emails
An automated workflow that recognises emails about EV installations, built with Claude, N8N, AirTable, OpenRouter and Slack.
This student set out to make their inbox do some of the sorting for them, and came away with a working system that picks out emails about EV installations. Along the way they wrote their own troubleshooting guide with Claude. It is a quiet, practical win that shows how far a technical background can go once AI tools are added.
Automated email system for EV installations
Before
Emails about EV installations arrived mixed in with everything else, and nothing set them apart automatically. They wanted a program that could tell those messages apart on its own. Getting variables to pass correctly between steps was a real stumbling block.
“Was able to get the program to recognize emails specific to EV installations”

The turning point
During the program they brought several tools together: Claude and Claude Code, N8N, AirTable, OpenRouter and Slack. When the workflow kept tripping over passing variables by value versus by reference, they worked with Claude to write their own SOP for troubleshooting it.
“Created my own SOP with Claude to troubleshoot the issues pertaining to passing variables by value vs reference.”

After
Now they have a system that recognises emails specific to EV installations. They also have a written procedure they built themselves for solving the trickiest technical issue in the project. They move through hard problems faster than before.
What it lets people do
The system pulls EV installation emails out of the general flow so they can be handled without manual sorting. Connected to AirTable and Slack, it gives a clearer path from an incoming message to the people and records that need it.
What they learned
Their biggest takeaway is that a technical background, paired with AI tools, lets you take on much harder tasks quickly. Writing down a fix as an SOP turned one frustrating bug into something reusable.
“Learned that with technical background, much more challenging tasks can be handled quickly”
In their own words
Automated email system for EV installations was built during AI Mastery.
