Built a groundbreaking animal health app from scratch with no coding experience
A veterinarian certified in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine used AI to build a groundbreaking app that matches pets with healing foods based on their unique constitution—transforming years of failed attempts into a near-complete product in weeks.
This is the project for which I actually signed up for this course. I have been trying to build this app for many years because it is very complicated in its underlying algorythm. The idea is to be able to help millions of animals that are currently suffering from conditions that Western chemical drugs are not able to control because the animals are still eating foods that are causing those disorders. And it is not about eating kibble or raw food or homemade diets, or organic or grain-free. It's about what foods are best for each constitution. You can still feed kibble to a dog that was riddled with allergies, but simply choosing a duck kibble instead of a lamb kibble, will make a huge difference.
As a veterinarian certified in Food Therapy following Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) guidelines, which in animals is called Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), I have seen absolute miracles in animals once we feed them the right foods for each one. These foods are dictated by their elemental constitution and how the interaction with their environment for their specific constitution has created a state of stress that shows with different symptoms such as itching, allergies, lameness, digestive problems, and behavioral problems.
With the help of this course I have created everything from absolute scratch. I asked Claude Code to define the PRD for the project after multiple iterations of my envisioned outcome. These iterations helped me clarify what my expectations are for the outcome and how I wanted things to go and what constraints needed to be in place because I want this app to be very applicable, practical, and yet completely accurate.
1. The app starts with a questionnaire for people to be able to determine what their TCM elemental constitution is for themselves and for their animals (any species of animal), taking into account the age of the individual because we all adapt over time:
2. The next step is to identify what the major problem of this animal or person is and the major symptoms. We evaluate those in consonance with the constitution to determine what the most likely three patterns of TCM diseases are, which is how the body shows that it is under stress.
3. The next step is to match those patterns and those symptoms with the functions that we need the foods to do in the body to counteract those stress symptoms.
4. After that we need to identify which foods actually fulfill those functions and then match all of it together so that people can get a clear list of which foods their animal or themselves need with the symptoms they have today, given the elemental constitution they are.
A marketing analysis with Claude Code showed that there is currently no competition, which I was very excited to hear! Continuing with Claude Code, I built a marketing strategy, a pricing strategy, and a plan of versions to start delivering fast but small. In fact one of the things I did was run the PRD through my council, which is one of the things we learned in the course. I've created a skill for that and two of the councils suggested splitting it up into an immediate version for clients and a later version for practitioners, which I'm definitely going to do but up until this analysis my plan was to deliver everything at once. Right there this has been a great learning experience. It is like having my own dedicated marketing professional that is not married to his or her way of doing things but is willing to listen to me and work with me to deliver what I envision. At the same time it is suggesting changes that would make things better based on real evidence of what has worked in the past for others.
I then had Claude Design make the website for the app and the TCM/TCVM Constitution questionnaire. I asked Claude to make mobs off of that app and then I ran to my council skill to critique it. That resulted in 3 interactive artifacts that I had not even thought would be possible and yet they are absolutely gorgeous and they work!
At the same time I was working with Claude Code on the schema for the database so that we could not only fulfill the main function of the database (which is to give real results to people and their pets of what foods will decrease their metabolic stress), but we can also do peer-reviewed epidemiological studies in the future with data from all around the world to start to nurture scientifi evidence in this line of veterinary medicine.
I've had Claude Code also determine which tools were the best to deploy the final app, taking into account it will be a native app in the App stores. I am still not done but I am getting very, very close to having a final product deployed live hopefully by the end of the month. Again given that I started from absolute scratch, this is mind-boggling.
