Built fully functional apps with payments and database—without coding
As Head of Organizational Development at a rapidly scaling homebuilder, she transformed from non-coder to app creator, building a fully functional SaaS application with database and payment integration—plus a custom home selections platform—all through describing her vision to AI.
THE VIBE-CODING BUILDER AWARD - PROJECT DESCRIPTION
From Idea to Functional App Without Writing Code
The Revolution
I don't know how to code. Not really.
But I've built a fully functional app with a database and Stripe payment integration. It works. I tested it. It's ready to launch.
That's the vibe-coding revolution: describe what you want, and AI builds it.
As Head of Organizational Development at Fifth Avenue Properties—a homebuilder scaling from 117 to 919 home starts this year, with a BHAG of 5,000—I don't have time to learn to code. But I have ideas. Lots of them. And now I have a way to turn those ideas into reality.
This is what I've built. This is what I'm building.
App #1: The Compelling Text Writer (Complete)
The Idea: An app that helps people write compelling text—marketing copy, messages, content that connects.
The Build Process:
I didn't write code. I described what I wanted.
My Vibe-Coding Workflow:
1. Brainstorm with Claude and ChatGPT (AI as thought partners)
→ What should this app do?
→ What's the user flow?
→ What features matter?
2. Refine the concept with Claude Code (thought partner for technical clarity)
→ Get specific about functionality
→ Think through edge cases
→ Develop a clear prompt
3. Hand the prompt to Lovable
→ Lovable builds the app
→ I review and iterate
→ Describe changes, Lovable implements
What I Built:
- Fully functional application
- Database backend (data persists, users have accounts)
- Stripe integration (can collect payments)
- Complete user interface
Current Status: Tested and working. Not released yet, but fully functional. When I ran tests, payments processed, data saved, everything worked.
The Tools:
- Claude & ChatGPT — Thought partners for ideation and concept development
- Claude Code — Refining the technical approach and writing the prompt
- Lovable — Building the actual application
The Impact: I went from idea to functional SaaS app without writing a single line of code. That's not a toy or a prototype. That's a real product ready for users.
App #2: Customer Home Selections App (In Development)
The Problem:
When someone buys a new home from us, they need to make selections—the finishes, colors, and features that make the house theirs. Today, this process looks like:
Current Process:
Customer receives PDF document (beautiful, but static)
→ Customer reviews options
→ Customer meets with salesperson
→ Salesperson walks through selections
→ Customer makes choices
→ Salesperson manually enters into Homefront Sales CRM
→ Data sits in CRM, disconnected from operations
The PDF looks beautiful. But the process is inefficient:
- Manual data entry creates errors
- Information doesn't flow automatically
- Salesperson time spent on data entry, not selling
- No real-time visibility into selection status
The Vision:
Vibe-Coded Solution:
Customer receives link to selections app
→ Beautiful, interactive interface
→ Customer browses and selects:
• Color packages
• Lighting fixtures
• Hardware colors
• Sinks
• Appliances
• Cabinet colors
• Flooring
• Finishing types
• Fireplaces
• And more...
→ Selections saved to database instantly
→ Automation triggers
→ Salesperson notified
→ Data flows to Homefront Sales CRM
→ Operations has visibility immediately
What Changes:
- Customer can make selections on their own time
- No manual data entry
- Real-time sync to CRM
- Salesperson focuses on relationship, not paperwork
- Operations sees selections immediately for planning
The Build Approach:
Same vibe-coding workflow:
1. Brainstorm with Claude and ChatGPT — map out user experience
2. Refine with Claude Code — nail down the data model and integrations
3. Build with Lovable — let AI create the app
Why This Matters:
At 919 homes this year, that's 919 selection meetings. If each one saves 30 minutes of manual entry and follow-up, that's 460 hours saved. At 5,000 homes (our BHAG), it's 2,500 hours—more than a full-time employee, just on selections.
App #3: Furniture & Design Visualizer (Future Vision)
The Idea:
What if homebuyers could see their furniture in their new home before it's even built?
The Vision:
Future App Concept:
Customer selects their floor plan
→ Uploads photos of their existing furniture
→ AI places furniture into floor plan rendering
→ Customer sees their couch, their dining table, their bed
in their actual new home layout
→ Adjust colors, finishes, lighting
→ Visualize the complete space
→ Make confident design decisions
Why This Matters:
Buying a new home is abstract. You're looking at floor plans and spec sheets. Will my furniture fit? What will it actually look like?
This app would let customers see their life in their new home—their actual furniture, their color choices, their finishes—before a single nail is hammered.
Status: Future development. But the vibe-coding approach makes it achievable. Describe the vision, let AI build it.
The Vibe-Coding Workflow
Here's how I turn ideas into apps:
Step 1: Ideation (Claude + ChatGPT as Thought Partners)
I start with a conversation. "I want to build an app that does X." My AI thought partners help me:
- Clarify what I actually need
- Think through the user experience
- Identify features that matter vs. nice-to-haves
- Spot problems before I build
This is where the "thought partner" approach matters most. I'm not just asking AI to do something—I'm thinking with it. We brainstorm together. We challenge ideas together. We refine together.
Step 2: Refinement (Claude Code)
Once the concept is solid, I get specific. Claude Code helps me:
- Define the data model
- Map out the user flows
- Think through integrations (Stripe, databases, APIs)
- Write a detailed prompt that captures everything
Step 3: Build (Lovable)
I hand the refined prompt to Lovable. It builds:
- The user interface
- The database structure
- The backend logic
- The integrations
I review, describe changes, and iterate. No code. Just conversation.
Step 4: Test and Refine
I test the app. When something doesn't work right, I describe the issue. Lovable fixes it. We iterate until it works.
Why Vibe-Coding Matters
The Old Way:
- Have an idea
- Hire a developer (or learn to code)
- Months of development
- Tens of thousands of dollars
- Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't
The Vibe-Coding Way:
- Have an idea
- Describe it to AI
- Days (not months) to functional app
- Fraction of the cost
- Iterate in real-time
I'm not a developer. I'm a Head of Organizational Development at a homebuilder. But I can build apps now. Real apps. With databases and payment processing and user accounts.
That changes everything.
Tools I Use
Thought Partners for Ideation & Refinement:
- Claude — Strategic thinking, concept development, my primary thought partner
- ChatGPT — Alternative perspectives, brainstorming
- Claude Code — Technical refinement, prompt writing
App Building:
- Lovable — Primary vibe-coding platform
Integrations:
- Stripe — Payment processing
- Database backends — Data persistence
- API connections — CRM integration (planned)
Key Learnings
1. Ideas are no longer bottlenecked by coding ability — If you can describe it clearly, you can build it.
2. AI thought partners make better prompts — Don't go straight to Lovable. Use Claude and ChatGPT as thought partners to refine your thinking first. Better input = better output.
3. Start with the user experience — What does the user need to do? Map that out with your thought partner before thinking about features.
4. Iterate in conversation — Something doesn't work? Describe the problem. The AI fixes it. No debugging, no Stack Overflow, just conversation.
5. Real apps, not toys — Vibe-coding can produce production-ready applications with databases, payments, and integrations. This isn't prototyping.
6. Business problems first — The customer selections app exists because there's a real inefficiency. Start with the problem, think it through with your AI thought partner, then build the solution.

Closing
I can't code. But I can describe. And I have AI thought partners who help me think.
I described an app that writes compelling text. Lovable built it. It has a database. It has Stripe. It works.
I'm describing an app that will transform how 919 homebuyers (and eventually 5,000) make their selections. No more PDFs. No more manual entry. Real-time data flowing from customer choices to operations.
And I'm envisioning an app that lets customers see their furniture in their new home before it's built.
This is vibe-coding: turning ideas into reality by thinking with AI thought partners and letting them build what you describe.
I'm not a developer. I'm someone with ideas, AI thought partners to refine them, and the tools to make them real.
That's the revolution. And I'm just getting started.
