A first hands-on AI build became a music app that answers your mood

An AI music app that reads how you feel, picks an inspiring song with OpenAI, and finds it on Spotify, all wired together with Airtable and Make.com.

This student set out to turn their AI training into something real, and came away with a working music app that meets people where they are emotionally. Their story is a reminder that the real learning starts when you build, and that one finished project can be the spark for many more.

AI Music App

Before

They had worked through the training and taken in a lot of new ideas about AI. But knowing the concepts is different from using them. The question was whether all of it could come together into something that actually worked.

“It covered much of what I learned during training, but I quickly realized that the real learning happens during practical application.”

The turning point

The project exercise pushed them from learning into doing. As they started connecting tools, they quickly saw that practical application was where the real lessons were. Ideas for new features kept arriving faster than they could build them.

“I just wish I had more time to implement all the features that came to mind as I worked on it.”

After

They finished a Music App designed to improve or maintain your mood. A user fills in an Airtable form, a webhook passes the details to Make.com, OpenAI chooses a fitting song, and Spotify supplies a link to play it, all written back into Airtable. They now feel more confident and motivated to take on more AI projects.

What it lets people do

Anyone can describe their mood, the genre they like and the kind of energy they want, and get a song chosen for that moment. It can be used any time or built into a daily routine as a small, steady way to lift or hold a mood.

What they learned

They learned that understanding comes from building, not only from studying. Running out of time to add every feature did not take away from the result; it showed them how much more they want to create.

“Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this exercise and now feel more confident and motivated to pursue additional AI projects.”

This project has been both challenging and deeply fulfilling. It covered much of what I learned during training, but I quickly realized that the real learning happens during practical application. I just wish I had more time to implement all the features that came to mind as I worked on it. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this exercise and now feel more confident and motivated to pursue additional AI projects. The result of this effort is a Music App designed to improve or maintain your mood. You can use it at any time or incorporate it into your routine. Essentially, the app finds and recommends a song based on your current mood and the type of music you'd like to hear. The process is straightforward: 1. Start by describing your mood, preferred genre, and the dynamics of the music you'd like to hear. 2. Enter these details into an Airtable form and submit them. 3. The submitted details are written to the 'Mood' table in Airtable, triggering an automated webhook script. 4. This webhook sends your details to Make.com, where: - A Webhook module receives the data from Airtable. - An OpenAI Prompt module analyzes the data and selects an inspirational song. - A Spotify Search module retrieves information about the song, including a URL link to play it. 1. Finally, the song information is updated back into Airtable for easy access.
