With limited coding experience, they built a full coaching app in 100 hours
A dual-persona app connecting high school coaches and athletes, taken from raw concept to working frontend and backend in about 100 hours.
This student had an idea for high school sports teams and limited prior coding experience. Working side by side with AI tools, they turned it into a functional app with two connected interfaces, accessibility built in from day one, and a narrated demo. Their story shows how far a clear idea and patient collaboration with AI can carry someone.
Pocket Coach
Before
They saw a gap between high school coaches and their athletes. Check-ins were fragmented and manual, often just a coach asking how someone was feeling. Full-stack development, with backend logic and React state management, sat beyond their technical knowledge.
“Built as a functional MVP, it replaces fragmented check-ins with a centralized platform for tracking both mental and physical performance.”

The turning point
They adopted what they call "Vibe Coding," a workflow centered on high-level AI collaboration to bridge technical knowledge gaps. They used several language models to write backend logic and troubleshoot React, Codex to automate code fixes, and AI to study established privacy policies and draft their own. Even the demo was made AI-first, with rough audio refined by Gemini and narrated by ElevenLabs.
“The project utilized "Vibe Coding," a workflow centered on high-level AI collaboration to bridge technical knowledge gaps.”

After
In about 100 hours they moved from a raw concept to a working MVP called Pocket Coach, built with React, Firebase and Cloudflare. It has separate Coach and Athlete interfaces that link through an invite and accept system. They added light and dark modes, full keyboard navigation and screen reader support from the start.
What it lets people do
Athletes get a private space to log wellness data across five mental and physical categories, with reports over time on how they prepare for games. Coaches get a real-time view of team readiness, can send Broadcasts to the whole team, and can give individual Assignments to track.
What they learned
They found that with the right prompting, complex full-stack work is within reach even without much coding background. They also learned that building accessibility in from day one lifts the professional quality of the whole product.
“Realized that with the right prompting and "Vibe Coding" principles, complex full-stack development is accessible even with limited prior coding experience.”
In their own words
Pocket Coach was built during AI Mastery.
