One image upload now becomes a published store product, fully automated

An automation that turns a single image dropped into Google Drive into a titled, described product on Printify and Shopify.

This student set out to remove the busywork from print-on-demand selling, and built a workflow where uploading one image is the only manual step. Along the way they hit a discontinued module and kept going, designing around it. It is a clear picture of what an automation mindset can do with everyday tools.

Printify-Shopify SmartSync Automation

Before

Creating print-on-demand products meant handling every step by hand: naming files, writing titles and descriptions, and setting each product up on Printify before it reached Shopify. Each listing was a small chain of repetitive tasks. The goal was simple to say and hard to do: fully automate product uploads from start to finish.

“Enabled users to upload just an image to Google Drive for a fully automated process.”

The turning point

Working as what they call an automation architect, they mapped the whole process into a workflow in Make, connecting Google Drive, Google Sheets, Printify and Shopify. A parser function became the key piece, renaming files and generating titles and descriptions dynamically. When a module in the workflow was discontinued, they treated it as a design problem and planned a workaround.

“Achieved end-to-end automation, including file renaming, title creation, and product publishing.”

After

Now an image uploaded to a designated Google Drive folder sets everything in motion. The system renames the file, creates a title and description, sends the product to Printify and syncs it with Shopify. Products are either published automatically or queued for approval, with Google Sheets keeping track of it all.

What it lets people do

Store owners can create print-on-demand products by uploading just an image, with no manual listing work. The approval queue lets them keep control when they want it, while the rest runs on its own.

What they learned

They came away knowing that automation needs care to stay reliable, and that keeping modules up to date matters for uninterrupted workflows. They also saw how parser functions and connected platforms can turn scattered tools into one smooth system.

“Importance of module updates for uninterrupted automation.”
