An hour of research for one post became five ready ideas in seconds

A custom GPT that turns a topic, focus and timeframe into five sourced "on this day" facts ready to post or talk about.

This creator knew the value of sharing a good fact nugget but kept putting it off, because each one took an hour. So they built OnThisDay Researcher, a custom GPT that does the ground work in seconds. It is a clear example of turning a recurring chore into a small, useful tool.

A content creator who wanted to show topic authority and spark engagement online.
OnThisDay Researcher

Before

They wanted to show topic authority, create engagement and share interesting facts. But each post meant at least an hour of finding the fact, writing the text and making it relevant. So the post kept slipping to next week, and not only once.

“Takes at least 1 hr to find it, create a text, make it relevant. Oh - not today. Maybe... next week.”

In their own words

The turning point

They started by doing the task by hand in ChatGPT-4o and iterating until it worked. Then they asked ChatGPT to write custom instructions for a GPT that asks for a topic, a focus and a timeframe. After refining, an MVP test and a revision with GPT-o1, the tool was ready.

“Now? AI helps. A GPT does the ground work for me.”

After

Now a GPT does the ground work for them. They type in a topic, focus and timeframe and get a selection of five options in seconds. They are already working on the next step, an API export to Infinity to keep a history and backlog of posts, and openly say the technical side has been a challenge.

What it lets people do

Anyone who wants to post with authority can get dated, relevant events with a short note on why each matters and a source to check. It turns a blank page into five starting points for a post or a talk.

What they learned

They learned that a tedious task becomes manageable once you test it manually, then hand the pattern to a GPT and keep iterating. They also stay honest about what is worth building next, questioning whether a feature solves a real problem.

“But I am not sure as copy/paste seems not a big issue.”

You want to show topic authority, create engagement and give people an interesting fact nugget? But its tedious! Look at all the work. Takes at least 1 hr to find it, create a text, make it relevant. Oh - not today. Maybe... next week. That was pretty much my thinking. I can tell you: not only once. Now? AI helps. A GPT does the ground work for me. Just insert a topic, a relevant focus and timeframe and off you go. You easily get a selection of 5 options you can post on, talk about etc. ... in seconds Don´t believe me? Meet OnThisDay Researcher! Look: https://chatgpt.com/g/g-677c0ad370d48191975fcaab620565d7-onthisday-researcher Method and tools used: 1. Experiment with the task manually in ChatGPT-4o 2. After some iterations, ask ChatGPT to create custom instructions for a GPT with defined features like asking for topic, focus and timeframe, 3. Refine and iterate 4. MVP test 5. Revision with GPT-o1 6. testing Next steps on the roadmap (potentially) - image (or even video) prompt generator in a consistent style (color scheme, abstract etc.) upon request on a selected entry - Workflow enhancement to guide the user to more resources on a specific topic (specifically with images) - better formatting for direct copy/paste into media like X or Linkedin Currently started to work on: export via API to Infinity (startinfinity.com), a Airtable alternative that I use and that has API. However, I am still working on technical implementation (which is a challenge - I ran into a few issues). Idea behind it is to have a history of posted infos, maybe a backlog for posts. But I am not sure as copy/paste seems not a big issue.
