A researcher turned a city framework into an AI-backed decision tool in progress
A framework that scores cities on health, resilience and innovation, now being rebuilt in Airtable with AI and automation for governments.
This student had already created the City Intelligence Index, a way to judge how cities are really doing. In the program they began turning that idea into a working system, built on Airtable and supported by AI. It is a clear picture of what happens when deep expertise meets new tools.
City Intelligence Index (CII)
Before
They had developed the City Intelligence Index as a structured framework to assess cities across health, resilience, innovation and long-term societal progress. It was a strong research model. But it lived mostly as a concept, not as a system a government could use day to day.
“I developed the City Intelligence Index (CII) as a structured framework to assess how cities perform across health, resilience, innovation, and long-term societal progress.”

The turning point
During the program they started operationalising the framework through AI integration and intelligent automation. They found Airtable and, in their words, got fully hooked. It became the structural backbone of the whole architecture.
“I use Airtable (fully hooked!!!) as the structural backbone of the CII architecture.”

After
Now they design relational databases that organise indicators, link them to evidence sources, define scoring logic and map connections across themes. They build tables for raw data, calculated metrics, metadata and version tracking, so every number can be traced. AI helps them refine indicators, synthesise research, model scenarios and design flows that connect data updates to analysis. The system is still under development.
What it lets people do
The index is meant to help governments see how their cities perform across health, resilience and innovation, with clear and traceable evidence behind each score. Automation means new data can flow straight through to updated analysis, supporting better decisions.
What they learned
They learned that a good idea becomes far more useful once it has a solid structure underneath it. Pairing careful methodology with AI and automation moved their work from a conceptual research model toward a modular, adaptive decision-support infrastructure.
“This system is currently under development and represents the transition from a conceptual research model toward a modular, adaptive decision-support infrastructure for governments.”
In their own words
City Intelligence Index (CII) was built during AI Mastery.
