A physician with no coding background built an AI patient check for her practice

A doctor turned a course exercise into a working AI assessment that helps women with chronic digestive symptoms feel heard before their first visit.

This physician runs a private medical practice and, four months ago, could not imagine building software herself. During the program, a simple landing page grew into a working digital patient experience. Her story shows how a real problem from your own work can become something you build with AI.

Viktoria Reiter
A physician with a private medical practice focused on women with chronic digestive symptoms.

Gut Clarity Check

Before

Their patients often arrived after years of digestive symptoms, multiple tests and a great deal of uncertainty. They saw the gap but building a digital tool felt out of reach. Their first thought about ideas like this was that they would not know how to build them.

“Four months ago, I would never have imagined that I could build something like this myself – something that is not just a course exercise, but genuinely useful for my own medical practice.”

In their own words

The turning point

An early course project was a landing page for their gut-health program. The marketing and customer-journey lessons made them think differently about how a patient first meets their practice. From there, the idea for the Gut Clarity Check was born, and Claude became their main partner for strategy, medical logic, UX, copy and code.

“Instead of creating another medical questionnaire, I wanted to build an experience that makes patients feel heard and understood even before their first consultation.”

In their own words

After

They built a working web prototype with a patient journey, a questionnaire, symptom-pattern logic and a red-flag safety layer. They tested and refined it from both the patient and the physician side, then deployed it with Netlify. They now see it as a beginning, not an ending.

What it lets people do

Patients move through a structured assessment that spots symptom patterns and possible red flags, then receive a personal summary in plain language. They can save it as a formatted PDF and choose whether to share it with their physician, so they stay in control of their information.

What they learned

They learned that AI can be a thinking partner, designer, coder and critical reviewer across a whole product, not just a text generator. Most of all, the question in their head changed from whether they could build something to how they could build it with AI.

“Instead of thinking, “I wouldn’t know how to build that,” I have learned to ask, “How could I build this with AI?”

In their own words

Gut Clarity Check was built during AI Mastery.

Achievements I developed an AI-powered “Gut Clarity Check” for my private medical practice, designed for women with chronic digestive symptoms. What started as a course exercise evolved into a fully functional digital patient experience – and into a project I am genuinely excited about. The final prototype guides patients through a structured assessment, identifies relevant symptom patterns and potential red flags, and generates a personalized, easy-to-understand summary. Patients can create a beautifully formatted PDF of their results and decide whether they want to share it with their physician. Tools Claude became my main AI development partner for strategy, medical logic, UX, copywriting and coding. I also used ChatGPT for brainstorming, critical review, troubleshooting and refinement, and Netlify to deploy the final web application. Methodology This project actually grew throughout the course. One of my earlier course projects was creating a landing page for my gut-health program. I particularly enjoyed the marketing and customer-journey part of the course, because it made me think differently about how a patient first encounters my medical practice – and how that experience could be improved with AI. From there, the idea for the Gut Clarity Check was born. I started with a real problem from my medical practice: patients with chronic digestive symptoms often arrive after years of symptoms, multiple tests and a great deal of uncertainty. Instead of creating another medical questionnaire, I wanted to build an experience that makes patients feel heard and understood even before their first consultation. Together with AI, I developed the patient journey, questionnaire, symptom-pattern logic, red-flag safety layer, personalized result architecture and finally the working web prototype. I repeatedly tested, questioned and refined it from both the patient and physician perspective. An important final design decision was privacy by design: patients remain in control of their information. Their personalized result can be saved as a PDF and shared with their physician at their own discretion. Learnings My biggest learning is how profoundly my understanding of AI has changed during this course. Four months ago, I would never have imagined that I could build something like this myself – something that is not just a course exercise, but genuinely useful for my own medical practice. I learned that AI can be much more than a tool for generating text or automating tasks. It can be a strategic thinking partner, a UX designer, a coding partner, a problem solver and a critical reviewer throughout an entire product-development process. What excites me most is that I now look at ideas differently. Instead of thinking, “I wouldn’t know how to build that,” I have learned to ask, “How could I build this with AI?” I am incredibly grateful for this course and for everything I have learned over the past months. Seeing an idea that started with a simple landing page evolve into a working digital healthcare prototype has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. For me, the Gut Clarity Check feels like the perfect final project – and a very fitting conclusion to this course. At the same time, it feels much more like a beginning than an ending. I am genuinely excited to see where I can take it next. Relevant URL https://darmcheck-reiter.netlify.app
