Rebuilt career and purpose as life coach after divorce and job loss
After his marriage and 25-year career ended within two months, this Olympic-level athlete found himself lost and unable to provide for his daughters. A chance encounter with Vishen's book reignited his purpose and led him to transform his coaching expertise into a new calling helping others through life's toughest transitions.
For years I was a successful coach in athletics after my own career as an Olympic level athlete. I had a thriving business and a burgeoning career as a fiction writer. With three beautiful daughters and a Wife of 19 years I loved dearly, things were great. I was happy. I was comfortable. I should have been paying better attention. My happily married life ended in the blink of an eye when my wife asked for a divorce. With my head spinning and my emotions in turmoil, I started to press to make sure that I could quickly find a home for myself and my daughters, and a way to comfortably support them. I worried my salary would not be enough and I was still in the negotiation phase with a publishing company for my novel. So I jumped head first into a new work situation I thought was the answer to my prayers. Nothing ever works out when you try to push the River though. That snap career choice was a very bad decision and in the span of two months my marriage had ended and my career of 25 years had ended. I was a wreck. I didn’t know where I was going to live or how to provide for my girls. I was shocked, and depressed, and my creativity seem to just dry up. I didn’t know what to do. I still remember that first moment where it felt as if I could finally take a breath. I had been going for evening walks to meditate and decided to listen to a book just because I liked the name. That book was the Buddha and the Badass by Vishen Lakhiani. Something awoke inside me listening to his words, and started me on a journey that took me through multiple Mindvalley trainings and eventually the decision to take my coaching background and put it toward something I was passionate about. Helping others move through the adversity and transition that I had gone through. This led me to the life coaching program and a career in that field. Thank you Vishen and thank you Ajit. You are both inspirations to me.
