From project manager to certified life coach during life's darkest chapter

Quick summary

Facing job loss, a breakup, and financial struggles, this project manager enrolled in Mindvalley's Life Coach Certification to help others—only to discover she needed to become her own first client, learning that not every problem needs immediate fixing.

From a Dark Chapter to a New Beginning - My Mindvalley Certified Life Coach Journey

At the beginning of 2026, life took a turn I wasn't prepared for. I lost my job, faced the end of a meaningful relationship, and found myself navigating emotional and financial challenges that seemed to arrive all at once. Plans I had carefully made for the year suddenly had to be put on hold.

Coming from over two decades in project management, I was accustomed to solving problems, managing uncertainty, and finding solutions. But this time, the project was my own life, and I couldn't simply create a recovery schedule and expect everything to fall into place.

For the first time in a long while, I felt like I was standing in a very dark hole, trying to figure out how to climb back out. My instinct was to fix everything as quickly as possible. Find another job. Repair what was broken. Recover financially. Get my life back on track.

Then came Mindvalley's Life Coach Certification. Interestingly, I entered the program thinking I would learn how to help other people navigate their challenges. What I didn't realize was that I was about to become my own first coaching client.

My biggest AHA moment was realizing that not every problem requires an immediate solution. Sometimes, what we need first is a better question.

Throughout the program, I learned to listen more deeply, become more curious, challenge my own assumptions, and recognize how my beliefs and emotions influence the way I respond to life's difficulties. I began understanding the difference between reacting to circumstances and consciously choosing how to move forward. Perhaps the hardest lesson for someone like me, who spent a career fixing things, was learning that not everything needs to be fixed, and not everything is within my control. That realization changed how I approach not only other people, but myself.

Today, as I complete this certification, I cannot tell you that all my challenges have disappeared. My career is still being rebuilt. My financial recovery is still a work in progress. And emotionally, there are still things I'm learning to navigate. But something important has changed. I no longer measure my progress solely by how quickly I can resolve a problem. I'm learning to measure it by how consciously I respond, how much I grow, and how willing I am to keep moving forward even when the answers aren't immediately clear.

I came into this program during one of the most difficult chapters of my life. I'm leaving with something I didn't expect: a deeper understanding of myself, a different perspective on life's uncertainties, and the ability to help others discover their own answers. I haven't reached the finish line. In many ways, I believe I've only just begun.

And maybe that's the most meaningful lesson of this entire journey. Life doesn't have to be completely figured out before we can begin living it with purpose. Four months ago, I came here to learn how to coach others.

What I discovered was that sometimes, the person who needs your compassion, patience, and understanding the most is the person looking back at you in the mirror.

And for that, I will always be grateful.

My journey continues...
