Launched Team Building Expo, wellness program and speaking career while rebuilding after hurricane
After a hurricane destroyed her property and personal loss followed, this Jamaican entrepreneur turned to learning as a lifeline. Social Media Mastery became the foundation for launching a Team Building Expo, wellness programs, and transforming how she leads her businesses through crisis.
The Storm, the Signal, and Social Media Mastery The Storm Before the Story In October 2026, in the middle of running two businesses in Jamaica, I gave myself a small gift for my birthday — a Mindvalley membership. One week later, Hurricane Melissa tore through the western end of the Island. My property was in it's path. It showed no mercy. Taking the roof, 80%of the trees, and any illusion that I could plan my way around loss. Twenty days of relentless work brought it back and we reopened accommodation volunteer and family members from overseas. Weeks after, grief arrived again when an aunt I had embraced 8 hours earlier was gone by morning, just 8 hours later. The Weight I Couldn't Outwork By January, the weight of it all had caught up with me. I was still trying to hold everything — the repairs, the staff, the family, the grief — the way I always had: alone, and by force of will. That instinct had served me for years. It was no longer enough. Choosing to Learn Instead of Just Repair So I did something that felt, at the time, almost indulgent. I went back to learning. I started to learn another language. Then I Enrolled in Social Media Mastery, a few days later I enrolled in AI Mastery. It wasn't ambition — it was survival. I needed one place where my mind could build instead of only repair. What I didn't expect was how completely that choice would change how I see knowledge itself: not as something to acquire when life is calm, but as something to reach for precisely when it isn't. It is clear it was much. I dropped the language and Mindvalley said I could not manage and they dropped me from from AI Mastery I had only attended 2 classes. I was far behind. From Student to Architect Mindvalley didn't just teach me a skill. It reshaped how I lead. I started to enhanced our Training & Development Division with new intention incorporating AI as a partner. In April 2026, I founded our Team Building Expo and had our first successful expo. By July, inspired directly by what I was learning, I launched a Wellness Lifestyle Eating program for my team. We began drip by drip incorporating AI as a genuine partner in our operations — not as a trend to chase, but as a tool I finally had the confidence to understand. Each of these grew from the same root: a student's discipline, applied to a leader's responsibilities. I now have a book outline and about 12 business ideas. One currently in discussion with a potential partner. I have begun speaking engagements, my first for a group of 200 students. The Lesson the Storm Left Behind Education, I've learned, is not a reward for stability. It is often the thing that creates stability, especially when everything around you has none. What began as a way to steady myself became the foundation for how I now build teams, wellness, innovation and integrate new businesses in my group of companies. Questions Worth Sitting With 1. What would change if you treated learning as a lifeline rather than a luxury? 2. Where in your life could one small, committed skill — like social media mastery — become the seed of something far larger? 3. What are you still trying to hold alone that might grow faster, and steadier, if you let structured knowledge carry part of the weight?
