Built three functional apps and two websites in 12 weeks with no coding experience
A veterinarian with minimal AI experience transformed a decade-long app dream into reality in just four months. She built multiple functional websites, a vaccination clinic booking system, and is finalizing Food Shifu—an app previous developers said had no future.
It was not clear whether we could submit multiple entries, just that we could apply for multiple awards, so instead of submitting individual entries for the different awards, I chose to submit a single entry with the story of many of the artifacts I have created throughout this course, just in case there was a single entry. Then when I submitted my entry, I saw that we had the option of submitting more. I did not get a confirmation when I first submitted this, so just in case, here it goes again as it was int he other submission.
Given that prior to AI Mastery I had only used ChatGPT a handful of times to do quick research through the internet for references, what I've gotten to do during the course is nothing short of mind-boggling.
First off I started with a subscription to Wispr Flow, which has helped me immensely in moving along dictating things instead of typing them. I am a multilingual person and it is actually impressive to see how Wispr Flow can change from one language to another although sometimes it gets confused and tries to edit everything in English.
I did actually build several small apps with Claude AI to keep track of health goals. I made a song in Suno for my brother's 58th birthday and a cover for the song in Chat GPT. He is a very, very, very picky person who doesn't like to share his things with others... The first thing he did was send a copy of the song and the artwork to his girlfriend, his co-workers and firends. I got to hear from several of them that he absolutely loved it! It took me all of 30 minutes in Claude cowork to write the lyrics that would fit the type of song I was plannign on, and another 30 minutes in Suno to create the song. This was how fast I managed to do things after seeing how Manon went about creating his songs and how they differ from Vik's songs. What I really got to learn from comparing both of them and their results is that the reason I like Manon's better is because of the way he exemplifies what he wants; by referring to artists by name and letting the AI figure out what is the underlying essence of those artists, instead of trying to himself decipher what type of music that is. That was very eye-opening to me.
The first applied thing I did was change my very basic due to limited design website hosted in GoDaddy to a beautiful interactive website that conveys everything that I've been building for the last 30 years of my profession as a veterinarian: https://dairy.athyrvet.com. I had Claude co-work walk me through how to host all of the files to make them available online. In my dreams would I have come up with a website like this where I can show my entire trajectory as a vet! I love it! The website is hosted via Cloudflare, with all the pages, images and other files in Github.
The second applied thing was to create several artifacts to keep track of things I need to do and Claude automatically adds to the list as we work on different conversations. This is created as entries in a database in Supabase that Claude accesses regularly throughout all of the conversations and at the end of each conversation with a close-session skill I created.
Then I created another website and a functional html app with a client interface and a practitioner interface for a low-cost vaccination clinic for dogs and cats. I have already started using it with clients and they are happy with how easy the flow is. It costs nothing to sign up and it is already deployed online at https://vaccinate.kountryvet.com. You are welcome to create an account and log in to play around with it, just make sure to include something in the name of the client and the name of the animals that this is a test. I have created a test vaccination clinic for our graduation date August 12 for you guys to sign up for things. The entire app was actually done with Claude Cowork because I created it before we got to learn about Claude code. We used "Resend" for email account verification and automatic communication for appointments and vaccination reminders for clients, and I already have a plan to develop the same workflow via text messages in Twilio. The app has a stripe link for clients to pay online when they book the clinic. It took a lot of work and a lot of iterations and a lot of frustration but it was a great stepping stone for my main development, which is the app that I am finishing up with Claude Code.
This app called Food Shifu is actually the main reason I signed up for the course. It is an app I've been trying to develop for the last ten years but it was going to cost a lot of money. Actually a couple of people that I approached to do this said that there was no future in it and they would not build it. So now I build it myself. I worked on Claude code to develop the PRD using the skill from the course, I made some adjustments both to the skill and the PRD. I created the pricing strategy by having Claude cowork evaluate who my competition is and what other similar apps are selling for. Then I created my own council skill and put the PRD through the council's critique, and that right there gave me the correct direction for the app, which is slightly different than what I was initially thinking and mainly based on proven techniques of successful apps. Based on the PRD, I created the brandbook in Claude cowork, the website and the app mockups with Claude design (attached), and I asked Claude Code to help me link the different tables in the database, which is housed in Supabase. I am an epidemiologist by training so I used tons of databases but the main difficulty in this app is the many-to-many relationships of multiple tables all at once. I asked Claude code how to overcome that. It created a genius schema with a set of link tables that I'm attaching as another file. I am still finalizing the actual data inside the database to make sure it's accurate and thorough, but the attached files do show most of what it will look like. The next step is to build it in Claude Code and deploy it likely by Vercel, but I'm still looking for alternate options.
I had never even heard of Supabase, Suno, Resend, Github, Twilio, Claude or Airtable before this course! One important thing I learned throughout this journey is that although AI can do things a lot faster than I can, its instinct is to make things up, which has been very problematic for me because my main trademarks are accuracy and consistency. I have spent countless hours fighting with Claude trying to get it to understand how to deliver the information that I need, how to format the outputs, and what kind of information I'm looking for. The main thing I learned all throughout has been how to ask Claude to do the things I need it to do.
I have played around with different types of files, like the Nuggets artifact Vyk creates, and we have finally settled on a combination of logs and md files to keep track of what works and what doesn't and what we've done. It has taken a lot of time but I finally have a partner and not an intern who I have to constantly remind how to do things. Thanks for the course! What a ride!
