AI Mastery

Built a 30-year financial model and mentoring practice at 65

Quick summary

At 65, facing a shrinking corporate coaching practice and family transitions, she used AI to build financial clarity through a 30-year spreadsheet and transform her panic about technology into daily partnership, emerging ready to author her third chapter with confidence.

AI is teaching me to be the author of my own third chapter. Before this programme, I was 25 years into coaching senior leaders, and quietly unravelling. The corporate coaching houses I'd built my practice through were thinning out, organisations turning to AI instead of hiring coaches like me, and as the main breadwinner for our family, I felt I was watching my own income narrow while I was meant to be the solid ground everyone else stood on. Meanwhile the coaching I actually believed in, meeting the whole person, at every junction of their life, on their terms, was becoming harder to practise inside organisations that wanted something narrower and faster. I knew I wanted to build something more of my own. I had no idea how, and social media, the obvious route, left me feeling entirely at the mercy of marketers promising the world for monthly fees, with none of the control I actually wanted. And this was the year the ground was moving everywhere else too: my mother died, my eldest left for a ten-month contract abroad, my youngest secured a coveted place for musical theatre conservatoire. Whatever this third chapter was going to be, I would be facing it differently to before. Thanks to this programme, the first thing I built wasn't a system. It was clarity. I did the deep work of a life goals and contribution framework, five objectives that became something like a constitution for everything that followed: my own productivity, supporting my clients from behind their corporate firewalls, building a rhythm and reputation of my own on social media, helping others future-proof their own businesses, and, as I enter this third chapter, working out what I have to give back. AI kept returning to challenge me against those objectives, my strengths, my blind spots, which meant the whole journey stayed honest rather than becoming a collection of clever tricks. From that foundation, I streamlined the actual mechanics of coaching, transcriptions, follow-up notes, contracts, proposal decks, and built numerous skills that reviews coaching sessions including the biases I can't see in myself. But the piece that changed the ground under my feet was financial. Through vibe- coding, I built a 30-year spreadsheet, pensions, ISAs, savings, my husband's and mine, with assumptions, variables, and graphs I'd never have attempted before. It created a picture of what we can spend, how long the money will last, right through to the point I expect to leave this earth. My husband was gobsmacked. I'd never built anything like it in my life. I'd never felt excited about looking at a spreadsheet. That spreadsheet gave me solid ground to explore from, rather than fear to manage. And now, my life is steadier than it's been in a long time, not because the uncertainty has gone, but because I'm no longer facing it empty-handed. I've moved from a low-grade panic about being left behind by AI to using it daily as a thinking partner, instructor, and challenger, in coaching and well beyond it. I've started mentoring other coaches on their own journeys. I'm already supporting clients from behind their firewalls with results I can point to. The rhythm for my own visibility and social media presence is still ahead of me, and I know that stage won't be easy either, there have been real moments of frustration and anxiety in getting even this far. Yet I feel ready, confident, and courageous enough to face the inevitable ups and downs in building the practice, and the third chapter life, I want. When my youngest leaves for university, I'll have the space to go further still. I'm 65 and I feel hopeful and excited about what I can build next.
