Before
They had spent years curating paintings and objects at home that felt meaningful, and they loved music that reached their soul. Making art of their own was another matter. Going into AI Mastery, the AI Artist category was one of the last places they expected to end up.
“I have always had a love of Art, however my ability to create what I would categorize as worthy art has always been sadly lacking.”

The turning point
Over several weeks of experimenting with Suno, they learned which prompts worked. They settled on a method: describe a life event, say why it mattered, name the genre, the instruments and the musical feeling they wanted, and let the AI handle rhythm, keys and cadence. The quality of the life story, they found, mattered most.
“Through AI Mastery's teachings, I feel I was able to reach that and beyond.”

After
They created a playlist of seven songs, four with lyrics shaped from their own descriptions. Root and Rising recalls hiking alone as a pre-teen in the woods above their home in West Vancouver. Sequoia Stroll captures the John Muir Trail to Mount Whitney, and I Made It Here holds a 99-day bicycle journey through 12 countries after graduating from UBC.
What it lets people do
The songs let listeners feel the places and moments that shaped one person's life. The method shows anyone that a well-told memory, and why it matters, can become music without technical training.
What they learned
They learned that the heart of the music is the story behind it. A vivid description of an event, and a clear sense of why it was meaningful, did more than any technical detail.
“I found the quality of the description of the life event was the most important aspect of achieving the music I was seeking to create.”

Achievements:
If you were to ask me at the beginning of AI Mastery what submission I would likely provide, one of the last categories I would have chosen would be the AI Artist category. I have always had a love of Art, however my ability to create what I would categorize as worthy art has always been sadly lacking.
In my home I have a collection of paintings and objects that I have curated over a majority of years in my life that I have always felt were meaningful to me and my wife Claire. Similarly with music I have a great love of wonderful music that reaches my soul. Imagining I could create music using AI that would approach that level, I would never have imagined that to be possible.
Through AI Mastery's teachings, I feel I was able to reach that and beyond.
Tools:
What I used was the application Suno. After using this and experimenting with the free plan with music creation, I purchased the Pro Plan allowing me to utilize the v5.5 version. This is what I used to create all the pieces I have included in the Playlist I am submitting for review.
Methodology:
Through experimentation over several weeks, I learned how to create prompts that were more successful and began to gain insights in how to provide ideas for lyric creation. The methodology I landed on, was to:
- describe certain events in my life
- specify why they were meaningful to me
- indicate the music genre I wanted to apply
- add the specific instruments I wanted to introduce in the music and
- ideas of what I wanted to achieve musically
Those five areas were more important than the technical nuances of rhythms, cadences, keys and other more technical aspects of the music itself. I let AI make those choices.
The result of this is the quality of the music that was created.
Learnings:
I found the quality of the description of the life event was the most important aspect of achieving the music I was seeking to create. Why it was meaningful was a very close second. In my very first song that I created, Root and Rising, I described my feelings as a pre-teen of how I began to have a deep appreciation for nature, often hiking independently in the woods above our home in West Vancouver, BC. This is a love that has stayed with me throughout my life that has carried me around the world to many incredible mountainous areas that the world has to offer. It truly reaches my soul and who I am today, so I was hoping that the music would also be worthy of that type of impact for me.
Similarly with my other music I described meaningful events through my prompts and also the depiction of the lyrics (which I included in four of the seven songs in the playlist) I was looking for. I wanted my description to mirror how it meant to me at that time in my life. Sequoia Stroll resulted from my feeling of my journey along the John Muir Trail between Yosemite National Park and the summit of Mount Whitney. Additionally, I Made It Here, expresses my feeling for my journey on a bicycle through Europe over 99 days, through 12 countries after I graduated from UBC.
