The question that changed the next chapter of my life

12 weeks ago, someone shared with me a statement that has since profoundly impacted the trajectory of my life.

I want to tell you the story because, for many of you, this will impact you too.

I was sitting at Soho House in Stockholm. I came to Stockholm to attend a longevity conference. I assembled people around me: founders, a few Mindvalley authors, close friends.

I asked them an important question.

I’d gathered them because I was confused.

And I wanted the truth from people who wouldn’t flatter me.

Here’s what I asked:

“I love teaching. But this past year I’ve been teaching so many different things, and I keep wondering what would happen if I focused on one. Among the areas of manifesting, entrepreneurship, AI, personal growth, and influence, what would you most want to hear me speak about?”

Across from me sat a brilliant doctor and speaker named Babak Amen.

And what he said stopped me cold.

“Vishen, the manifesting work is cool. But plenty of people do that. The one thing you’re truly the best in the world at, the thing that has my full attention, is turning someone who is an expert into an authority. You’ve done it for hundreds of authors. For WildFit. For Lifebook. For Marisa Peer. For Jim Kwik. For Regan Hillyer. You’ve built world-class names. Some of them are globally recognized. After two decades, you must have a system because I don’t know anyone else who’s done this a hundred times, for a hundred different people. What’s the method? Teach that. And I’ll take notes.”

I sat with it for a long time.

He was right.

It’s the one thing I’m possibly truly one of the best in the world at.

I know how to take an expert nobody has heard of and make them a name people flock to.

I know how to take a founder with a brilliant product that can’t get seen, and help them tell their story so clearly that people start chasing them instead.

I know how to take a webinar and turn it into an engine that floods a company with leads.

I did that for Lifebook — a 12-year-old company — and grew their revenue 300% in a few months.

I know how to make a world-class teacher into a globally recognized name. I did that with Marisa Peer in 2015.

And I know how to build a video ad that makes a teacher famous. The campaign we built for Jim Kwik took him from 50,000 Instagram followers to two million. At its peak, it drove $20 million A YEAR for his program Superbrain.

I’ve done this more than a hundred times.

Here’s what Babak Amen actually gave me that afternoon. It wasn’t a compliment. It was clarity. Because I realized I don’t just know how to do this thing — I know how to teach it.

That’s the realization moving me into a new chapter of my life.

Why this becomes my legacy

At Mindvalley, we’ve always dreamed of touching a billion lives.

After 20 years, we’ve reached about 20 million people directly. Count the lives our teachers have touched, and it’s closer to 100 million people. Beautiful.

But it still leaves 900 million to go.

I’ve finally made peace with something. We can’t get there on our own.

The only way to touch a billion lives is to amplify other teachers. To take the gifted and the unknown, the ones with something real to give, and help the world actually receive them. I know the system that does this. So I’m going to give it away.

I’m starting with a summit. I’ll be doing most of the teaching.

It’s called Expert to Authority Summit, and I’m teaching my best systems over 3 days for 4 hours each day. Free.

It begins September 18.

That date is not random. Dates carry meaning for me.

September 18, 2007, was the most important day of my life. It’s the day my son Hayden was born.

Hayden just left for university. He’s in Florida now, and I’m enormously proud of him. We spent his last year before university traveling the world together, learning together because any parent will tell you the hard math: you spend about 90% of the time you’ll ever have with your child before they turn eighteen.

So this September 18, for the first time, Hayden’s at university. And a lot of time has opened up in my life.

I could let that become sadness. The quiet grief that hits so many parents when the house goes still. Instead, I’m pouring it into something that matters, building a new chapter around helping experts become authorities.

That’s why the summit begins on the 18th. The day my son starts his next chapter and turns 19 is the day I start mine.

Expert to Authority Summit. Three days, live on Zoom, September 18–20. Free.

I’ll be honest about what this is and isn’t.

It’s not a motivational weekend.

For 22 years, this method has stayed behind the curtain; it’s how we build every new Mindvalley author in their first thirty days.

This is the first time I’m teaching all of it in the open.

If you’re an expert, a coach, a founder, or a teacher who is genuinely good at what you do and the world still doesn’t know it, come.

  1. I believe I may have found the thing I could be best in the world at: helping people better manage Misophonia.

I’ve created an online programme called MisoGo, which brings together Havening, Parts Therapy and NLP to help people find greater relief and regain a sense of control around their Misophonia. It’s an area that receives surprisingly little attention, despite estimates suggesting that around 18–20% of people may experience Misophonia to some degree. MisoGo has already helped thousands of people find some relief, and I genuinely believe it could become a valuable addition to the world.

But there’s a backstory to how I ended up here.

My girlfriend at the time (now my wife) went to hospital with suspected appendicitis. Three hours later, she gave birth.

I had three hours to become a Dad!

That experience changed the direction of my life. I wrote a book about that fateful night, 3 Hour Dad, which I self-published and which is available on Amazon. More importantly, it sparked a fascination with the mind and led me to become a hypnotherapist.

For seven years, I worked with people helping them neutralise the effects of trauma, PTSD and CPTSD.

Then, in a way that feels very much like the universe choosing my next path for me, Misophonia entered my life.

I became fascinated by what was happening in the brain and nervous system and why something as seemingly simple as a sound could have such a profound effect on someone’s experience of the world. That fascination eventually became MisoGo.

I genuinely believe that what Mindvalley represents — bringing people together, sharing knowledge and helping people become the best version of themselves — aligns beautifully with what I’m trying to achieve with MisoGo.

I’d love to see Misophonia receive the awareness it deserves and to give the people affected by it access to something that could genuinely improve their lives.

And alongside all of this, my own exploration of mindset, gratitude and universal laws has led me to a deeper understanding of the Law of Attraction. I believe we’re all, in our own way, experts in using it — we just don’t always realise how we’re using it.

So perhaps this is the thing I could be best in the world at.

    Not because I know everything.

But because I’ve found something I care deeply about, have spent years developing, and genuinely believe can make a difference.

And I’d love the opportunity to take that further. Thanks so much Vishen.

My days are spent with Bob Proctor, Regan, Silva all because of your brilliant imagination.

    Best Wishes Adam

  2. Dear Vishen,
I am working with the founder of UK based pre revenue start up company, Oka-bi software. The CEO is an expert in architecture engineering and has set up a company that offers data management by embedding data privacy at it’s core by design. Your post has resonated with me and I have shared it with the Founders. If this is the one thing you are offering then this learning will be gratefully appreciated. The timing of your post is perfect. I hope this note finds you well and healthy . I follow mind valley but this is the first time I have found a real purpose to move me to act and share a comment.

  3. I’m not 100% sure of the one thing I might be the best in the world at, but I have a few ideas. My main issue is that there are so many things I’ve never tried. What if I’m best in the world at one of those things? I may be the world’s best stunt helicopter pilot, but I’ll never know because I’ve never even been inside a helicopter, much less piloted one. :sob:

I’m hoping the clarity I gain during this summit will help me solidify my “one thing” and let go of all the what-ifs.

  4. Brilliant! Resonate totally. I raised 2 successful men:) A now 21 year old successful techie son in the Silicon Valley, and a successful husband…lol…..20 yrs in the making. Now ready to fly my wings, post a successful startup at the age of 21, then 2nd failed startup and now on the 3rd one!

  5. living-together communities are the future. period. few of the reasons: belonging, extended family, support, extreme practicality, self-actualization, self-transcendence, sustainability, healing, having everything locally, no consumerism, there is always someone who loves to do what needs to be done etc. to make it truly ideal, everything we know today needs to be re-thought. about this things are coming to me for a decade now. my gene key profile says i am a potent founder of a community where the individual is just as important and i have the symbol of the current era in my profile. i am crafting now the structure. questioning EVERYthing. investigating nature (all our answers are there). and knowing that there is only love. may we all remember our magic today, réka
p.s. i am open for connections

  6. I have always wanted the confidence to be my truth. I’m an empath and found healing through an experience I had at work.

I was looking after a client who was paralysed from the waist down aged 26 and the paralysis came out of nowhere. She had learnt to walk with callipers. I had been her hairdresser for 3 appointments and I recommended a hair treatment.

Whilst I was performing the scalp massage I felt this bolt of lightning/energy surge from my shoulder and it shot all the way down my arm to my hand and onto her scalp…

Now, being the professional I was (39years in) I didn’t remove my hands and continued without a word but this feeling said, “left leg”

When after 10 minutes I finished and asked “Leigh, is your left leg ok?”
She said “What? What are you saying?”

I explained what happened and she said “Em, you’re scaring me, I can’t feel any different and haven’t had feeling in my legs for years!”

Anyway I closed down the conversation and continued with her haircut and I apologised for scaring her and rebooked her and she left.

20 minutes later I heard my receptionist on the phone saying “Hey, are you ok? Slow down, hang on I’ll get Em!”

Leigh was crying saying that her left leg had an itch, she had feeling there.

I was dumbstruck and asked if she was ok. She was over the moon and thanked me. I can’t explain it.

Anyway, I then of course spoke with other clients of mine and one was a reiki master and she did a test on me and said that I was a natural healer.

I then found out that many of my clients unbeknownst to me were also healers and spiritual people and practitioners and hadn’t said anything but knew that there was something about me.

I started investing in knowledge and found that I was absolutely fascinated by energy healing.

I did Bradley Nelson’s Emotion code certification and have the certification and have sold my hairdressing business to follow what I believe is my true calling.

I loved my hairdressing profession with all my heart and got to the top of my game. I was a fellow with the fellowship of British hairdressers and did London fashion week to name a few. But this energy work was taking over.

This is what I want to do. Please can you help me.

  7. What I value the most in this article is the point you share about appreciating the time we have with our children before they turn 18. As a coach whose youngest just left for college, I am on a mission to help parents make the most of the little moments they have with their families.

  8. We all are good at something, but we do many things and don’t recognize what is it we are best at.
Thank you for this experience you shared Vishen.
I strongly believe that in a few years, I will be so good, that I could speak at a Mindvalley event 🙌

  9. Just yesterday I had a huge reflection about the time I spent with mindvalley (don’t know when our relationship began but it has been on-again/off-again 😊) my reflection was that I had gathered tidbits here and there that had truly helped me, but it took alot of time and sifting. Alot of times you had said take what you need, everyone needs something different and that was true. The thing is also though, there is a common root, an essentialness, that is applicable to every human regardless of all the ways we orient or grow and show our fruits and feathers. Is there an essentialness across all your teachers and people you have amplified that one can take as a foundational course then go specific into people and places according to ones own nature? Like every human has to eat, sleep, go to the bathroom, learn how to interact with themselves and needs community and how to build community. Every human as a brain, heart, lungs, bones, etc. All of these things have an essential highest nature of functioning. What are those things explicitly named? Maybe something like this exists within mindvalley but it didn’t click for me yet. This came together because of this article you sent. The main structure and architecture of amplifying messages and turning expert into authority. Which is awesome because I would apply it to myself to become an expert or authority on myself. The way you wrote it sounds like this same framework would apply across any orientation framework, culture, nationality etc. Is there an essentialness to the human being system that can be structurally and architecturally shown or gathered in this similar way? I would want to be a teacher or a coach that imparts this essentialness. Then whether someone goes on to teach yoga, rock-climbing, gym, calisthenics, pilates etc. Everyone would know the essentials they need to receive from those things. Then they can self-grow and others-grow.

Also, for some reason mindvalley as a name always was one foot in the door and one foot out. To me it emphasizes the mind. But a human being is a system. And in a true system to work cohesively and harmoniously every element must possess, retain, give and receive equal darja.

This could all be my own imbibing so far and maybe something like this exists somewhere in mindvalley that hasn’t clicked for me yet, but this core root of your work you have found synthesized all the above for me. This last year and so has been an on-again part of our relationship and I was like……he is covering alot too. 😊

Is there a foundational course within mindvalley that can serve as an anchoring that can lead to better digestion of anything else I may explore.

Thank you to you, and all the people and energy and frequencies and the millions of tidbits in life that went into you from life, kudrat and all the people you have exchanged with and continue to exchange with and the trillions of tidbits of self-conversation you had to be where you are at this juncture of your next chapter.

I feel people can self-grow easily if they had a foundational structure understanding across all domains and dimensions that can bind people across orientation, nationality, culture etc.

Currently the convo is my way, this way, no that way. No this way. About tolerance and crossing bridges or making bridges.

But there is a conversation somewhere that is saying ‘This. For everyone and everything. Now build, grow, live it how it comes together for you, and when you all do that, you will create a beauty surpassing all wildest imaginings.’ And when I look at nature, that is beyond wildest imaginings see for human-made systems. The symmetry, the vitalitous exchange, the harmony, the cyclic-ality, building seasonality et al.

This could just be Currently at the vista I am at and it hasn’t come together for me yet, but it has been very nicely articulated so perhaps it is ready to come together. 😊

Thank you for your blogs. Because the nature of your work I feel your blogs hit an easentialism that moves across topics and dimensions and domains.

  10. I am an expert in teaching individuals who struggle to read using their picture thinking learning style in one week. Also helping autistic individuals be able to participate fully in life. This is not my method, but one of a genius dyslexic & autistic man named Ron Davis, who recently passed away. We already have a global organization, but it’s relatively small scale. This method is SO genius and has helped many individuals but it has the potential to help SO MANY more. With the incidence of autism growing at such a rapid rate, the program can help not only the individual but their families and school systems and businesses, etc etc. I have been a Mindvalley member going into my 3rd year and somehow I can’t help feel that Vishen’s commitment to loneliness that he talked about on a podcast can pair with the Ron Davis methods to help struggling learners with both reading, ADHD, and autism. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for all you do, Vishen.

  11. I’m very much looking forward to this summit — thanks! However, I believe there’s a fifth type of person: someone who is transitioning careers and/or no longer has a passion for the field they were an expert at. For example: I sold 3,5 million copies as a textbook writer in digital education, but I no longer want to do that. So how do I become an authority in a completely new area, even at 50 years old?

  12. I LOVE how it is usually someone else who tells us who we are in the way that we provide value to the world.

My story, like many, is unique. Just coming out of 13 years in prison. Deported from the USA. Now in a country I have not been since I was 2 years old – I am now 42. Learning to start over. To build.

    It is daunting.

But maybe what I can SHOW right NOW is the ability to keep pushing and building. To be resilience. To keep moving forward.

Maybe the story is the me being able to teach within prison, to encourage, to show there is more out there that starts from within us.

Sometimes, I wish someone was willing to stick out their hands and say I see something in you, let’s me help you. Other times, I know I must create my own. Perhaps it will be a mix of both.

  13. Interesting talk !! I am in for sure
Actually I wanted to submit a request to mindvalley to prepare a practical yoga course

  14. I have built what the yoga world has been missing. Its the best kundalini integration feedback system through the energetic, somatic and nervous system. A proven resonance science and art. Kundalini Magnetic Resonance Therapy . Training women globally to work with the body, mind, soul and field . Transmission healing at its best. Im the best at it. A lived medicine . Thank you!

  15. Hi Vishen,

what you’ve built over the past 20 years is truly impressive and inspiring.

Your invitation to help amplify teachers and experts really resonated with me, because I know I have something meaningful to offer, yet I haven’t reached nearly as many people as I would love to.

My work is about helping people embody, process and integrate emotions so they can reconnect with their own inner power. I combine breathwork, EFT, energy work and somatic practices to support people in moving through what holds them back and becoming more grounded, empowered and fully present in their lives.

I would love to learn from you how to expand that impact and bring this work to many more people.

And perhaps the thing I may be best at is creating spaces where people feel safe enough to truly meet themselves — and transform from there.
    Alicia

  17. Very touching and meaningful. Thank you so much for sharing all this in such a compelling way, Vishen. My son Adam turned 19 3 months ago so I can relate to some of the things you said about Hayden turning 19 soon. I already registered to attend this summit and I am sincerely looking forward to it. May I help Mindvalley reach a billion lives. I hope all is well with Eve too.

  18. I love this topic. I would also love to attend this incredible 3 day summit. Unfortunately, I have a prior commitment on the 18-20 September. I hope you will be offering it again. I have learned so much from the different Mindvalley quests.

  19. Guiding experts to become authorities is possibly your foremost superpower – but it certainly is not your only one. I regularly quote your teachings in my coaching sessions and I am tremendously grateful that you didn’t stick to developing and practicing just that one superpower. Another of your superpowers is combining Spirit with a globally impactful business. That’s embodiment.
My primary superpower is stating the obvious, acting as a mirror and living heartfully.
