Summary: how-to-be-more-disciplined

Are you trying to build a new habit but struggling to follow it every single day?

Self-discipline is key to changing habits, starting new ones, and achieving any goal we might desire.

It is the essence of our growth and development as human beings and what differentiates a regular human being from high-performing individuals.

And it’s not that we don’t all want to become the best version of ourselves, but it’s about being disciplined enough to build the right habits and stick with them until they become part of your everyday life.

So, what are the habits of a disciplined person? How to be disciplined in work and life?

Follow this simple four-step method to help you increase your self-discipline and follow through on your commitments.

Step 1: Go all-in

It’s like jumping into a cold pool. If you start by getting your feet wet first, you probably won’t end up in the pool, or it’ll take you decades.

You have to jump right in. Take the bandaid off quick.

Starting right away and going all-in is the most effective way to be more disciplined.

Step 2: Find a support system

Find a person or a group of people that will support you in your journey.

This could be a coach, a mentor, a trainer, a friend, a group of friends, or your family.

Tell them what you want to achieve and ask them to keep you accountable for it.

Step 3: Make your environment supportive

Would you leave your unmuted phone next to you while you try to meditate? No (or at least we hope not.)

It’s imperative that you ensure your environment supports your habit-building journey.

For example, if you’re trying to lose weight, you might want to start by getting rid of all the junk food in your pantry.

Step 4: Be kind to yourself

The reason why most people fail to follow through on their habit building is that they skip once, and then they get disappointed and skip again, and then again, and again until they officially give up.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

It’s okay to go off track once in a while. What is important is to be kind to yourself.

Acknowledge it, forgive yourself, and get back on track.
