Alan Watts

A prolific author, speaker, philosopher, Alan Watts was the foremost Western interpreter of Eastern thought. He introduced generations in the 60s and 70s to the wisdoms of Asia. Filmed 50 years to the day Alan Watts first came to CBS, where he got to ask people big existential questions, this masterclass is filmed in cooperation with the Alan Watts Foundation and Alan’s son, Mark Watts. Alan's philosophy, and the big existential questions, have influenced hundreds of millions of people and have changed their point of view about life. During his lifetime he wrote 26 books and recorded hundreds of hours of lectures and seminars. Working with his son, Mark, in the early 70s, they created Alan Watts’ electronic university. Rather than solely profit from distribution, Mark Watts freely distributed several of Alan’s audio teachings so everyone could benefit from Alan’s wisdom. To date, Alan Watts’ YouTube videos have over 125 million views. His relevant and relatable teachings have been repurposed by many people, including the makers of South Park. Alan passed away in 1973.
